Default Caught in the net?

Why didnt Jack tell Sawyer that he and Kate didnt have a tumble in the jungle when Sawyer presumed that they had [Ep.2.22]. There was definetely an opportunity for Jack to ease his mind..yet he chose not to. Why is this i wonder?

Does it make Jack feel superior by making Sawyer feel inadequate and hurt?
Does Jack like the thought of him and Kate as an item..is he pondering what it would be like and sticking the knife in Sawyer at the same time?

Just what is Jack's game?

*and one final thought..'caught in the net'? more like caught in a 'tangled web' Jacky-boy..that Kates a killer spider i tells ya..she eats men like you for breakfast then spits them out - just look at Tom..and Jason..etc*

I got the impression that he didn't want to get involved in sordid little jokes at that time and he just thought Sawyer was being a bit of an eejit - but yeah, it's not unlikely that he was also unwillingly to disillusion Sawyer from something that he knew would've made the man uncomfortable. For all that 'you're the closest thing I've got to a friend' nonsense, there's no love lost between them.

I agree with Murg, I think that Jack just likes to keep his business to himself, he isnt the type to get emotional either.

Though I have to say that I do thing he maybe likes the idea of him and Kate as a couple, and as time goes on I do believe that they will be one.

Ok but if it was the other way round, Sawyer would of told Jack and rubbed it right in!

What Jack done was the good thing to do. The gentleman's way, as it were.

Nonsense! Pretending you've got 'caught in a net' with a woman when you haven't at all is the least gentlemanly thing to do.

Not that I wouldn't do the same but still.

I think explaining what really happened would have been the wrong thing at that moment.

"Oh no, Sawyer, you've misunderstood that, we didn't, you know. Sorry if that made you confess this, which you otherwise wouldn't have."

But he has been rather jealous, ever since Sawyer woke up saying "I love her" and possibly before. So I wouldn't rule out the other explanation.

Yeah, i think it was abit of both - he didnt want to dispell those jealous thoughts from Sawyers head and he also didnt really have the time/energy to get invloved in those type of discussions with a man he certainly doesnt consider a friend.

I agree with the first part of your sentance..but the part about Jack 'not being the type to get emotional'..well..i have to disagree because surely Jacky-boy is then most emotional man [or even person!] on 'Team Lostie'!?

Wasn't that one of the most surreal moments ever? 'You're the closest thing I've got to a friend.' What? A man you can't stand and who can't stand you? Surely Kate's closer to Sawyer than Jack is. Surely just about anyone's closer to Sawyer than Jack is, frankly.

In EHH (saw it again last night on E4), when Sawyer is still in the pit and he says "I'm not coming out until I know my friends are OK". And then Michael pops his head in and says "So we are friends now?"

That scene means much more now than it meant then, don't you think?

Yeah i agree! It was a very strange thing for Sawyer to come out with! It kinda reminded me of their oh so touching get together in exodus last season, when Sawyer told Jack about his dad etc. Only that was less surreal and more heart wrenching

That too was an odd thing for Sawyer to say. [i dont mean this in a bad way:] In a way he's like a child..when his back is against the wall he either comes out swinging or he looks for endearment. I can understand why he referred to Mike as his "friend" because they [along with Jin] had been through alot together..but it was still nonetheless rather shocking to hear him say that.

I think Sawyer, generally cares for people. But doesn't want them to feel the same way. Ana Lucia is a prime example - I think they shared many similar traits - and his "You are now [to Jack], now she's gone" was proof to that. Similar with Jack, I think on some levels he 'respects Jack' [similar in a way Locke respects him] but for Sawyer to let someone like Jack know that would be a travesty to his [Sawyers] ego, in my opinion.

I think this could be why he said what he said to Jack. To admit that Kate was his 'nearest and dearest' would make him vulnerable and also, I don't think he'd want Kate to know he 'had relations' [lol!] with Ana L.
