But as murg said, why didnt he ask for permission for someone else to come with him on the submarine? And like i said above, he seemed to have abondend the losties...
But when Jack made the deal with Ben to perform his operation all he requested in exchange was for himself to go home, and didn't say a word about any of the other Losties being allowed to come with him. It's not as if Jack could demand a lot more from Ben and expect to get it, especially not after the way he performed the op.

I wonder if he'd feel any different knowing he'd left a half-sister and nephew of his to their very undecided fate on the beach.

I still trust Jack

I believe he has used him time being held prisoner by the Others to hatch a plan using his instincts as to what to believe and what not to believe of Ben

and him seeing Kate and Sawyer do what they did made him realise that he doesn’t know the Losties so well that he has to stay with them to help them he can make a bid for freedom and then get help for all the remaining Losties

He hasn't fallen in my estimation at all! That would be entirely impossible.
I just want to clarify...for any guests or folks that don't know me....Jack couldn't possibly fall in my estimation because he's already at rock bottom!

I couldn't bear the thought that someone might take that comment the wrong way...I was losing sleep over it!

I know theres not alot of jack fans on here, but i know some of you 'dislike' him but 'respect' his decisions. Personally i like Jack but these past 2 episodes have rather changed my opinion drastically. I can see that he wanted Kate and co. to be released, but he seemed very otherish in this episode, For instance when he told Kate to answer the questions...

Hes not in my good books anymore, because these episodes made him seem rather selfish, He said he would get help or something along those lines, but hows that possible if theres no returning?
Haha..so a man rubs shoulders with the Others and all of a sudden you dont like him? I find it funny how folks take a dim view on whoever grants the Othetrs some respect and understanding :P

Jack, if anything should be praised for the way in which hes finally opened his eyes and realised that the Others are human beings, just like him.

It's a clash of cultures, yes..but there are commonalities which he has found - Toms love of football for example. Jack represents the losties and for him to now be coming over to our side, it is a great message to society - never..never, say never

Go Jack Go team Ben!

Coz he's seeing things our way now..he's realised that we were right all along and that Ben is the provider of opportunity..an oportunity which he wouldnt otherwise of had. Yes, the kidnappings werent ideal..but boy does this prove that when in this situation, we'd all be thanking Ben for saving us..we'd all realise that there is a bigger picture.

Vindication for the Others..methinks
Oh, rot. :P It proves nothing of the sort. At present we just don't have enough info for it to make sense: all it currently indicates is that Jack is easily swayed into throwing aside his integrity about how he considers his own treatment (offering someone the escape you're capable of providing at a physical and emotional cost is not decent behaviour) and his concerns for other human beings if it means he gets a shot at freedom (from a man who then did what he could to deny that freedom anyway - thanks a bunch, Ben). There are still a lot of very frightened and confused and endangered people back on that beach, and if the promise of going home is enough to make him smile and skip about in spite of that knowledge, then he doesn't have much in way of a heart. Though, as I say, we need a lot more info.
Murg, salvation is salvation - at the end of the day we'd all be thanking Ben for giving us the opportunity to leave (unless like Locke we didnt want to leave..but Jack clearly does).

You say that Jack is easily swayed..i disagree..Jack is the most stubborn man on that island and his allegience with the Others is borne out of respect for them and choice imo.

I would like to see what you would do in Jacks position :P ..i doubt anyone would turn down Bens offer..infact it was Jack who asked to go home..Ben is being gracious in his reasoning.
