Lightbulb Character Regression?

I've noticed Hurley above pretty much all the characters who have taken a step back into their old ways (Sawyer, Sayid et al) Hurley seems to have flown under the radar.

Lets compare pre-Numbers Hurley to todays Hurley, its as if that entire episode never happened. For the span of Numbers - Orientation he was clearly an anxious wreck obsessed with these numbers. He risked his life (well kind of, he knew "luck" would protect him) to try and find their possible meaning, he wanted to solve the mystery and lift the curse.

Now however he is more than happy to sit down the hatch imputting the numbers that have ruined his life into a computer with no idea what its purpose is. He's either trying to get it on with Libby or stuffing his face with junk food he stole from the store cupboard (so much for sharing it out, what was the point in EHH if he took half the food for himself?). It's almost as if he has lost interest in the numbers, which is totally out of character. I feel his entire story has been ignored for the purposes of comic relief, which I really dont understand since he was just as, if not more, hilarious when he was a numbers-obsessed maniac.

Lets hope the big guy loses his mind again sometime soon and gets back to his more interesting self rather than playing the token "funny fat one".

Default Character Regression?

I know what you mean. We've hardly seen hurley for the last few eps and I really want to know more about the numbers. He is one of my fave characters so its a shame not seeing him as much but hopefully we'll see him abit more soon!

Default Character Regression?

Excallent post Mantis! I was only the other day thinking how perplexing Hurleys recent regression has been. I mean..the whole sharing the food thing from EHH seems such a foggy memory now..instead he's hoarding it all for himself! I mean, If Sawyer did that then people would have a thing or two to say..especialy Jack!

Just a thought but maybe his recent regression and inward status is a result of depression. I mean, is Hugo depressed? We know that he has a 'past' and whilst many of us assume that he had a mental problem maybe he was simply depressed..as people do sometimes go through things like that in life. So maybe explains his recent state? [just a thought]

Also, he kinda beocme detached from Charlie again..and for someone like Hurley who had already made himself an 'outsider' because of his 'numbers/curese' belief and without his best mate perhaps he feels more alone than ever. Also, look how badly he wanted to keep the Tree Frog as a pet [i assume]..maybe this shows how badly he needs a friend?

I have more thoughts which i'll add later.

Default Character Regression?

Just cause something is not shown on screen doesnt mean it hasnt happened so Hurley and Charie could still be freinds we had nothing on screen that i can remeber thats says otherwise or suggests theyve fallen out. Correct me if i missed something.

I think Hurley turned his back on Charlie after the whole arson / baby snatching incident. He was seen shaking his head and walking away from Charlie along with everyone else, they may have spoke since but they arent always together now like they used to be.

Default Character Regression?

I still feel dispite his 'regression' I still feel that Hurley is still one of the most entertaining and funny charcters on Lost, if not the most so. Just look at his fight scene with Sawyer he was worng to do it and i would chatise anyone else for responding how he did but because it was him just made it the funniest thing on TV all year (and I belive Jin thought so too :P ) I think hes acts all layed back etc because it shields him from his vunerable side that makes him the cause of bad things around him. He horded the food because if you remember he blames himself for the crash. It doesnt make it right but many losties have done worse on the island. Its interesting that had soon has he makes the effort to change - they find the drop of masses of food. If Libby passes away, it will be another thing for him to blame himself for. In short he still obessed with the numbers, but just in a different way - ie the bad luck is now coming more into furition. He reinvented Dave who was his coping mechanism in the mental home.

with regards to Charlie, Charlie seems to be hanging around with Eko thes days anyways so they are in different circles on the island
