I suppose now that the shock that poor LuLu 'may' not make it has sunk in

..my thoughts turn to Libby..and perhaps more importanly..to Hurley.

Poor guy..just how will he cope? Just when he found new 'love'. Just when he and Libby might have gone to the next stage..seeing as Libby mentioned 'wine', it might have been his lucky night

I mean..in 'Dave' we saw just how close he was to the edge..he was literally on the brink of despair...so..will this push him over..?

I'm not sure how he'll cope, but i'm expecting alot of tears in the next episode. Hurley hasn't really got anyone to turn to now libby's gone. Charlie's off with Eko, Jin doesn't speak english and i'm not sure who else he's close to. Maybe Rose will come and save him with her words of wisdom. But if he's on his own i can see him having some sort of breakdown.

It's hard to say how Hurley will react as I dont really think we know that much about his personality.

He seems very easy going, a bit of a scaredy cat at times but basically a nice guy.

We've never seen him in a situation where he has lost something dear to him, now this has happened with Libby maybe we will see a new side to his character, one hell bent on revenge maybe?

The only time I can remember him being upfront and 'strong' was when he went looking for Danni when he saw the numbers on that bit of paper Sayid had stolen from her.

Obviously the eppy Dave we saw him go 'over the edge' but Libby was there to 'save' him. Will he react in the same way upon hearing what happened to her, and if so, who will bw there to save him now?

I think Hurley will do either one of two things:

Join with Sayid in a quest for revenge against their others for their lost loves

- or -

Blame it on his bad luck go completely nuts and start running about the jungle looking for some more frickin answers

Apart from the mandatory tears and all, I think that this will convince Hurley that he is not making it all up in his head... Why would he lose the person he loves in his 'own private Idaho'? I mean, Dave's main argument was that all this great stuff was happening to Hurley (Lottery, Private Island, Libby); Libby's death does not quite correspond with this.

reading these posts, I got an awful vision of Hurley sitting on the beach with his picnic, waiting for Libbie to turn up with the wine - smiling happily to himself and thinking of all the good things in life...... then Jack (?) comes up behind him (slightly slow motion, music, mute voices) and tells him whats happened, and you see his face fall.....

I think that Hurley could completely fall apart, blaming the curse of the numbers, and go a bit crazy in his determination to find out exactly what happened. Then he'll either isolate himself from everyone and keep all his pain to himself, or he'll get fired up and, depending on what he knows or what he believes, he'll go all guns blazing after Michael/Henry/The Others.

I agree, i don't think that he could take any more bad news at the moment...i think he is emotionally drained and would (as you say) tip him over the edge and either go into himself or the opposite. And after his "fight" with Sawyer, anything is poss...

Yeah good point - no-one expected Hurley to attack Sawyer, so who knows what he's really capable of? Whatever happens with him I don't think he'll take it very well, and will either implode or explode.

True..very true. But maybe Hurley will see this as his way out? He is a tad suicidal. They do say 'help' comes in many forms..

We didn't actually see Libby's wounds or death throes (unlike Ana's, which were rather obviously final), so it's possible she may survive, though probably only for long enough to spend an episode or two unconscious, wake up long enough to blurt out "It was Michael", then pop her clogs just long enough for a close-up on Jack's horrified face before the credits roll...
