LEFT BEHIND ![]() The fifteenth episode of Season 3 is Kate’s flashback, where we learn more about her time just after she killed her father. Kate runs into Cassidy, who is trying to sell necklaces, and prevents the cops being called on her. Cassidy offers to help her in return and asks how it is she’s helping, and Kate gives her name as Lucy. Kate wants to speak to her mother again and ask why she called the police on her after she set the house on fire, since she did all that to save her mother and provide for her. After discovering how many police are watching her mother’s house, Kate and Cassidy arrange for Kate to run into her in the restaurant where she works. Kate refuses to apologise for what she’s done, and her mother says that because she’s her daughter she won’t tell the police on the table that she’s here, but that if she ever sees Kate again she will report her. Meanwhile on the island Locke comes to say goodbye to Kate and that he’s going away with the Others, and after a gas canister is thrown through the window Kate next awakes in the jungle. But she isn’t alone, because she’s handcuffed to Juliet, who also claims that she was gassed and left behind. Kate demands that they go back to the Others’ camp for Jack, but Juliet accuses Kate of ruining Jack’s chance of getting home. They fight, and Kate dislocates Juliet’s shoulder, and then they hear the monster and have to run. As they hide bright flashes blind them, as if it’s taking their picture. They continue on, but then hear the smoke monster again right behind them. Just as it’s right behind them Juliet suddenly takes out a key and unlocks their cuffs, before entering a code on a sonic fence pylon they’ve just passed to prevent the black smoke from passing through it. They arrive back at the Others’ camp and meet up with Jack and Sayid, and against Sayid’s wishes Jack says that Juliet is coming back with them. On the beach Hurley tricks Sawyer into being kind and caring towards people by saying that they’re having a vote on whether or not to banish him, and when Sawyer finds out the truth Hurley says that since he’s now their temporary leader he needs to do all these things.

Not one of my favourite episodes I must say, this and 'One of us' are quite boring, the only good bits being the reunion at the end of this episode and on the beach in the next one...

A fairly solid episode. It's always great to see Cassidy, even though the immediate faith that she put in Kate was a bit strange. It's interesting to see how much alike Kate and Cassie are/were; maybe Sawyer just attracts that kind of girl
Jules is also great in this episode, per usual. I can't get bored watching her, partly the reason why I think Wiz's statement is pure twaddle , but she interacts well with pretty much character and is so deeply complex. *Resists urge to use that Sawyer quote*It was also nice to see Smokey and particularly exhilarating to see Jules stand up against him Shades of Mr. Eko. I was missing him by this point. So yes a pretty good episode in my opinion. Some nice Kate and Jules stuff (Jules in mud = Re-watch rating - 7/10.

Re-watching this revealed how little i remember of it from the first time round - i remember Kate and Juliet doing lots of running and thats about it
saying that I think that for a Kate flashback its not too bad I love the stuff between Sawyer and Hurley - I often wonder how the actors get on with eachother in real life affects how their characters are written because Sawyer and Hurley didn't have much to do with eachother in season 1 but as time has gone on they have turned into quite a double act and I wonder if this is a reflection of Josh and Jorge |

![]() Ok so maybe this episode isn't that bad, it just isn't as action packed as some others, and we all know Wizzy likes his episodes action-packed Don't we?

Notable for one of those weird abandoned plot threads - set Sawyer up to be leader, bring Jack home the following episode. Which is a shame. Not a great episode, all in all. The mud-wrestling scenes were eye-rollingly gratuitous, though I suppose the shamelessness of it was kind of amusing. And it's always nice to see Smokey again. But really it was all a bit of a waste.

The episode is much better than I remember actually. I had this down as a blip, and wasn't looking forward to it, but I enjoyed it more than I expected - mainly for the small parts like Kate eating bread off the floor.
It's well produced basically. Not 'Stranger in a Strange Land' bad by any means. I think at the time I was frustrated at the lack of a real movement of plot - all that really happens was all the Others left, except Juliet (I noticed this time that Kate actually sees Juliet packing before the put the gas canister into her room). The flashback felt like a rehash.Monster appearance and Sawyer/Hurley scenes were well done, and the latter gave me a good laugh. 'I... don't like... blankets', 'You tricked me into being decent?!', 'When Paulo and Nicki died, we all looked to you.. then again you totally tried to steal the diamonds - but we wanted to look to you' ![]() Still niggling for its lack of plot development however.

1 hot chick in a mud bath and some other brunette what more can you ask for?
The flashback was shockingly poor...oh its a Kate episode what a surprise. We learnt nowt more then we didn't already. Why Smokey took a photo of Kate I will never know. Maybe hes going to have a look at them and decide to kill her next. rewatch value 6 for the mud, 0 for the flashback.

Good lord, that flashback was heavy going! Have my eyes finished bleeding yet? I'm so grateful for possible flash-forwards added to the mix, cos Kate SO doesn't have anything left in her pre-island past that I want to see.
Strangely I didn't really enjoy this one, yet I recall enjoying it quite a bit previously - speaking about the island story of course, cos the FB was weak and rather drab. It also felt forced the way they made Kate's mom basically explain exactly why she screamed when she saw her in the "Tabula Rasa" episode. Although perhaps I'm being harsh there - perhaps that was a worthwhile piece of post-shadowing? The most exciting part of this episode was Locke's 'goodbye' to Kate - this is actually useful forshadowing, because in a lter episode, "The Brig", we see Loce reading a red file - obviously containing information on Kate, Sawyers etc pasts - thus explaining Locke's near contempt for Kate in this episode. It makes sense cos at this time he couldn't understand how someone could murder their father like how Kate had murdered Wayne (I take it this was the reason he was upset with her?)..this was soon to change, however. The other exciting thing about this episode was Smokey flashing J+K - perhaps extracting subconscious information from them? Not sure, although I believe that would make the most sense. What doesn't make as much sense is why Smokey came back for them so soon - i mean he gave Eko a month. Though it could also be argued that he gave Eko a choice..a choice which Eko displeased Smokey with, hence his death. Something tells me that Smokey wouldn't have given J+K a choice had the barrier not been activated in time ![]() I'm sure this is a good episode the first time round, but by Lost rewatch standards he left me wanting.. Re-watch value: 5/10
