The sixth episode of Season 3 is Kate’s flashback, where we learn more about when she as married. Calling herself Monica Kate is planning to marry a cop called Kevin, but he knows her as Monica. Before the big day Kevin’s mother gives her a necklace, and as Kate and Kevin take their vows the priest says that with Monica what you see is what you get. One night after shopping for dinner Kate calls Edward Mars, the US Marshal who’s still tracking her, and asks him to stop. Mars agrees if she can settle down for once, but that they both know that won’t happen. Kate takes a pregnancy test which turns out to be negative, but Kate can’t keep up the pretence any more and confesses all to Kevin as she announces she’s leaving him.

Meanwhile on the island Jack refuses to do Ben’s surgery, so Kate is brought in to see him to try and convince him otherwise or else they’ll kill Sawyer. Jack still refuses and Kate leaves, and when she gets back to the cage she tells Sawyer what will happen and Sawyer is glad that Jack won’t do it. Angry at this Kate escapes her cage and tries to free Sawyer by opening his cage, who tells her that they aren’t even on their island so there’s nowhere to escape to. Upset Kate kisses Sawyer and they sleep together, but what they don’t know is that Jack has also escaped and has seen them on the monitoring tvs. After seeing this Jack agrees to operate on Ben, and as the surgery is underway Pickett goes to the cages where he hits Sawyer and holds a gun to his head. Meanwhile Jack has cut Ben’s kidney sack and is threatening to let him bleed to death unless Kate and Sawyer are allowed to escape. Pickett is told to give his walkie to Kate, who is to call Jack back only after she’s reached safety.

No, it was Monica that got married.

I mean this woman is unbeliveable. How many times is this woman going to lie and get away with things? And whats with the stupid tears.

Worst flashback ever - well on par with What Kate Did anyhow.

Kate is just one big lie and a nasty piece of work that should get her comeuppance and be burnt at the stake.

I think this is one of Kate's best flashbacks... maybe

On island I thought this was a really good episode, especially the ending. With Sawyer out in the rain where he definitely would have been killed if it hadn't been for Jack deliberately messing up the surgery. And that iconic line at the end... *sighs*

Hated this episode at the time - felt cheated that this was where LOST would leave off for 3 months.

Rewatching, it's clear just how contained this episode is - perhaps a good one to help new fans of the show to get a feel for it.

Can't stand Kate flashbacks, and this was no different. The only good thing to come from it was her line about "Taco Nights" (no, really).

The on island stuff was pretty good actually - some rather intense moments with Sawyer nearly..nearly getting his cumuppance and Ben's life being held ransom by Jack. It was also filled with some rather silly moments, like Alex' rescue attempt - slingshot Sally had no chance! Makes you wonder though whether a missing scene was with her and Ben making a deal - help coerce Jack out of the tank (i'm sure it's her voice on the intercom) in exchange for a moment (not a sexual one) with Karl? Either that or Ben simply hijacked Alex' attempt to help Jack escape. Ben's always 10 steps ahead of the game.

Mathew Fox is good, but he really needs to learn how to say the word "walkie-talkie" in a more menacing way.

I was originally disappointed with Tom's performance in this episode, but looking back it's quite funny how he stands there open-jawed as Jack starts a coup of Ben's kidney. I'm guessing that's how they intended his reaction - to be slightly funny?

If there is one reason to watch this episode over again then it's Jack's final words to Kate:

"Dammit, Kate, RUN!!"

Man that was funny

I found the end of this episode really exciting watching this time around actually. For some reason (I really don't know why), my heart was beating a bit when Ben went into surgery and everything

This time around, I was left quite excited by the ending and I didn't really felt let down because we knew what it was going to be. The only bad thing was Jack's last but one word...why say 'dammit' in that sentence? Why?

Like Kor said, Tom was hilarious! He really was left speechless.

Past Kate was a bit of a hopeless person really. Edward (who it was good to see might I add) was going to let her settle yet she still carried on running. Kathyrn, Kathryn, Kathryn

Now bring on the rest of series 3 from after the mini series

Well I don't think it would have sounded as good if he'd just said 'Kate, RUN!' it's too abrupt. I think four syllables was the perfect amount for that sentence, and the word 'damnit' fitted in perfectly
