![]() The sixteenth episode of Season 2 is a Sun and Jin flashback, where we learn that they are having trouble conceiving a child. They visit a fertility specialist, who tells them that they can never conceive because of condition Sun has. Sun is also having English lessons with Jae, and she confesses to him that she was thinking of leaving Jin and going to America. Later on as Sun is walking with her dog, the fertility specialist approaches her and tells her that the real reason she and Jin can’t have children is because Jin is infertile, and that he didn’t say so because he was frightened. Meanwhile on the island, Sun approaches Sawyer and asks for a pregnancy test after not feeling very well. Locke speaks with Ana-Lucia and tells her that there’s a man in his hatch and he wants him out, and Ana agrees to go and speak with Henry, with Locke only telling Jack about it once she went in. Henry tells Ana that he and his wife crashed on the island in a balloon and he draws her a map to it and, with help from Sayid and Charlie, she goes off in search of it. Sun takes the pregnancy test and discovers that its positive, much to Jin’s delight. Back in the hatch Henry is allowed out of the armoury for a while, and when he realises that Jack and Locke didn’t hear from Ana about the map he drew, he starts talking about how if he were an Other, he would have drawn the map in order to trap them as they searched for it. But it’s a good job he isn’t an Other is it, and do Locke and Jack have any milk to go with the cereal he’s eating?[/align]

I love this episode. With the brilliant apology of Ana's and just Ana in general. However, I flipping hate Charlie when he's all bitchy with that gun and gives it to Sayid. Man, I could've slapped the idiot.
PS: That is a lovely picture of Ana's crotch. ![]()

Oh and when Charlie is teasing Ana with the gun is one of the very few times I cheered him on in S2!

![]() The flashback of this episode was nothing special, but Sun and Jin's ones aren't the most action packed anyway. The best parts were the Henry Gale/armoury scenes, especially his last line at the end! And the episode we say goodbye to Ana is fortunately coming nearer and nearer!

Good episode which suprisingly hasn't depreciated as much as I thought it would have.
The oneupmanship between J + L is funny, though it does stifle the performance capablities of both actors. It was warming to see AL learning from her mistakes by giving HG a chance to draw his map. This showed Sayid that there were actually viable alternatives to getting answers, than beating a man to pulp. what drives me mad is that Sayid scoff's a AL's efforts and seems incredibly relcutant to help look for the balloon - clearly he didn't want to find it as it would all but weaken any leverage he had. Not that he had much to begin with. Oh and AL's nipples were a shocking yet not too unpleasant observation in the 'map' scene with S and his new lacky, Charlie. This eppy was Sun centric, yet it didn't bore me like the rest of her retropective episodes do. Her "I need a pregnancy test" line to Sawyer was way OTT - that or you sense that her pregnancy will play a MAJOR role in the final seasons of the series, as opposed to the fairly bit-part one that Claire's pregnancy has so far delivered. In fact this would make sense, as a 9 month pregnancy would just about fit in with the time scale of 3 final seasons (though I only have past seasons for comparison), and Kate's (possible) conception on island and her urge to get back to 'him' (child?) would also suggest that the race to get off the island (and then back on?) to save the lives of Sun and baby (and others) will really be major driver and focus point in the closing stages of this drama. Smething I had not truly considered until rewatching this episode. Jin was out of order in blaming Sun for their infertility issues - however, she was bang out of line for being a hoochie. I liked the later scene were Jin is replanting Sun's garden (that he destroyed), it's almost symbolic of the island making him fertile again. Sun's "We'll be lucky if there's anyone left to tell (about the baby)" rang alarm bells in my head - could this be a piece of 'forshadowing' from those seed-planting writers? Possibly. AL's "Sorry" scene w/ Sayid was really emotional, but it showed just how far she had come and that underneath the thorns is a rose who just needed a bit of love and affection to fully bloom. Her sentiments also triggered off an interesting bout of vengeful redirection from Sayid, who had by now focused all of his 'Shannon-angst' onto the newbie (Henry), almost as if the only reason why he was able to 'accept' Ana was because he had another target in the form of 'human punch bag', Henry Gale. Speaking of whom, M.E gave a delicious performance in this episode - it's amazing to witness just how good and intuitive he is as an actor because he really had to play the HG character w/o too much knowledge on where the character was going long term, but he pulled it off with aplomb. Also, good directing by allowing M.E to interpret those lines and giving him the freedom to play around with them, as this is clearly evident in this episode. Lines on a page are one thing, but M.E so brought them to life. Looking back, it's shockingly easy to tell that HG wasn't who he says he is (in 'THIS' episode) - he's just too assured and 'fiendish', toying with Jack and Locke as if he were the 'King of the castle'. His earlier line to Jack about 'Prophets and Martyrs' is one of the best and most intruiging of the season - Jack gave an answer which pleased Henry (Ben) - "they both end up dead (Prophets & martyrs)" - which seems confusingly fatalistic from a man whom we know is very much on the side of FREEWILL and CHOICE (note his references to Locke about the "Magic box" and making things happen/letting go/making life changing choices etc). Perhaps his "that's the spirit" answer was more because that's what he knew Jack would say, hence he was pleased to have him all figured out already? Hmm. In my notes I put down: "Charlie - FUNNY!" and he was. His interaction with AL was sarcastic and swarmy, but she gave as good as she got: "You looking at my bum?" "No, i'm looking at your gun" Whoever wrote that line deserves a kiss from the sweet lips of AL. Charlie has also been paying attention to Sayid's lack of humour like I have: "Humour isn't his strong suit". Amen Charlie, Amen. One more note: Jae Lee = bald headed bast*rd! Rewatch value: 7/10

I like the flashback on this episode I think thats mainly being due to the fact that its not tha boring - I do wonder why the Dr felt the need to find Sun and tell her had he realised she had a new "friend" and if he did know then how did he know I like the balloon hunt as well mainly because it is something different ie some of the Losties going off on a trek but to get answers not to get hero points |

Firstly, check out Sun at the start! Bit of a babe :P
Anyway, much better episode that I remembered. I did just associate it with ...And Found before watching and thought 'oh no', but it's really not that bad at all. The Jin and Sun on island is good and I love how happy they are at the end of the episode Can't help but root for Jin and Sun!The search for the balloon is good too. I've decided I'm not impressed with Sayid in the episodes around this time. Example, Sayids reluctancy to find the balloon. Just think, if Ben wasn't an other - how bad would Sayids actions of been. Charlie was hilarious too. I love the bit where he gives the gun to Sayid and not Ana - what childish fun ![]() |

One thing that made me a bit surprised was that Suns Father was against her having a "relationship" with Jae, when he actually tried to arrange for her to marry him and his family are very rich, not like poor Jin, who Mr. Paik didn't seem too keen on!! I understand that your Daughter having an affair isn't too good, but Mr. Paik seemedto be more of a business man than family man so I wouldn't have thought that Sun having his children would be a bad thing for him.
