![]() Let us imagine that Sawyer did NOT jump out of the Helicopter and the Oceanic 6 were in fact the Oceanic 7. WHO do you think Kate would have chose to be with, if anyone - Sawyer or Jack? I cannot really decide and have to say she would be unable to decide and would be bouncing off both as usual.

I'll say Jack because Kate seemed to chose Jack over Sawyer on the island. However, for some reason, Kate, who normally can't sit still and never settles anywhere, has gone all maternal and now I feel she'd choose the one who would be the best daddy towards Aaron.
Jack's not doing too well so far what with his drink and drugs problems. However, Sawyer is also feeling paternal (at long last) towards Clementine. So Kate might prefer him in the end; but it would depend how Sawyer shaped up and whether he wanted to be with Kate or Cassidy. |

Regarding Sawyer, I had also not thought about the obvious possibility of him finding Cassidy and Clementine, in which case Sawyer would likely have settled down with those two - not a given though.

I thought Jack's problems began when he caught Kate talking on the phone to Cassidy and wouldn't tell Jack why. But I agree the Christian episode and Hurley didn't seem to help and seeing Locke in a coffin seemed to devastate him. I think he feels kinda responsible for Locke's death (aka Jeremy Bentham).
I think Jack has a king size inferiority complex (though I still think the world of him ) and he feels all threatened when the women in his life have secrets. It brings back bad memories of Sarah.Funnily enough, although Jack knew Sawyer was his rival on the island, he never seemed to be horrible to him (only when necessary to get medicines and stuff). I think Jack and Sawyer had a kind of friendship. Sawyer loved it when he finally found a game (table tennis) that he could beat Jack at; but it was a blokey kind of joy not seriously competitive. Sawyer did go off and help Jack round up the stragglers for the final escape from the island too. If I was Kate I'd have a hard time choosing because I find them both appealing in different ways. ![]() |

How had he shown an "inferiority complex" ON-Island? I am not disagreeing, I am just curious. Yes there is definitely a respect between the two amongst all the disagreements and bad encounters without a doubt. I loved the scene in S1 when Sawyer told the story of meeting Christian, that was really nice. It was the FIRST time they seemed to "connect". They are indeed both VERY appealing I agree and very different in their appeals.

Hi Reed,
Yes, I know it seems strange to say that Jack has an inferiority complex when he has shown himself to be a leader; but I think Christian's attitude towards Jack when he was a child left it's mark. Most of the time it doesn't show but when Hurley chose Locke over Jack I think that upset him and when Kate got extra friendly with Sawyer he just wanted to get away didn't he? He just couldn't bear to be on the island and see his failure in front of him. I think Jack's father's remarks left Jack with nagging doubts if he could ever measure up. Even Christian told Jack (just before he married Sarah) that when he has children he hopes he will do a better job than he did. Christian was implying he'd made mistakes with Jack. He also didn't want to be the leader and didn't want to get involved with the first memorial service (when they cremated the dead from the plane). I think that's when his doubts or complex showed too. I agree that the scene when Sawyer told Jack him about Christian in the bar was great and as you say, it was a touching to see them connect. I picked both. She was doing that anyway on the island, why pick right when you get off.

Oooh hard poll Reed! I have to agree with you and Miss Austen that Sawyer and Jack are both appealing in two totally different ways. I think they are both gorgeous, but I think that Kate will always choose Jack. There is a bond between the two of them that cannot be broken. It was made the moment they met. Although Kate and Sawyer have incredible chemistry and look great together, they are more fun and flirty like friends would be. Friends with benefits that is.
![]() I do think she would pick Jack in the long run. She would probably bounce around between the two for a while and eventually choose Jack. I wonder who Kate would choose to save if she could only save one of them? She has thrown herself in front of Sawyer to keep him from taking a bullet from Pickett after all. ![]()

I love how everyones answer has been either Jack or Both, but not just Sawyer. For the record, I would take Sawyer over Jack.

I think she would end up with Sawyer. Although Jack and Kate seem to have chemistry together , I just don't think they're very compatable as people if no in the long term ( There marriage) , although I think that Sawyer and her are much more alike and Kate feels much more comfortable with Sawyer. I think it was in Season 2 that she said she felt as if she was falling in love with her dead stepfather wayne , but as mother and daughter tend to be alike , I can't see why they wouldn't fall for the same kind of man in the long term.

Some good points there Bass-mastaa.
But I think that is one of the reasons why Kate is put off Sawyer. Because she killed her stepfather, it isn't much of a recommendation to fall for a man who resembles him is it? I think it makes her edgy. I suppose if Sawyer goes on the way he has been more recently (less selfish) he will start to resemble her stepfather less and less though. I very much agree with your point that mothers and daughters often go for the same type of man. |
