Just noticed while re-watching season three that two characters were about to commit suicide.
Locke was about to turn his gun on himself when he regained conciousness in the pit containing all the dead Dharma folks after Ben shot him. Then Walt's image showed up and urged Locke on to walk again and get going. Jack was about to jump off a bridge when a driver spotted him on the bridge which caused her to have an accident. Jack's need to help the car crash victim essentially stopped him killing himself. So both Locke and Jack were/are potential suicide victims. Does this link them in some way? Is this why Jack feels more sympathy for Locke/Jeremy Bentham than anyone else seems to do because (like Locke) he too has felt suicidal? It seems weird that Locke's death is one minute mentioned as suicide and the next minute as murder. Interesting that Locke did once consider suicide and did suffer from depression in his life (not surprisingly with the amount of rotten breaks he's had). Yeah if it was sucide this may be a reason why Jack sympathises , but thinking about that Hurley who is also one of the O6 has also previously tried to commit suicide along with Micheal.

Yep! I'd forgotten about Hurley and Michael's suicide attemps. Our Losties aren't always the happiest people are they?
I think this is why the show is great. One minute you see them all larking around and having a laugh (Sawyer, Charlie, Jin and Hurley feature heavily in these sort of scenes). Then you see the Losties hitting the depths of despair. They are all great actors and you really see the range of their acting skills with these swift ups and downs and extremes of their emotions. I just wonder if Locke's gunshot wound (shot by Ben) and attempted suicide (just afterwards) have any bearing on Locke's current seemingly dead status off island. |

Yeah good point about the actors. But personally I don't really go with the past on island injurys unhealing themselves theory , but to be honest I have no idea

It's all part of the fun of the show to see how they will explain Locke's death. I wonder what went wrong on the island? Can't wait to find out!
