Just been watching the episode in Season 3 where Sawyer kills Cooper (Locke's biological father) because Locke couldn't bring himself to do it.
I really felt in that episode that Cooper wasn't a real flesh and blood person. He just didn't act how someone waiting to die acts. He was verbally provoking Locke and Sawyer - almost like he wanted to be killed. ![]() Would a flesh and blood person do this? If felt to me more like 'killing Cooper' was a symbolic gesture that either Locke or Sawyer had to do in order to move on with their life unencumbered by their particular emotional baggage. Locke couldn't bring himself to do it; but by Sawyer killing his Dad, Locke too felt free from bitterness and could move on with his life. It was like killing two birds with one stone so to speak! I put this on General because this involves both Locke and Sawyer and I didn't know which character to put it under. So do you think Island Cooper was real or a clever illusion? Real. Cooper's story matches the Others' story and behaviour. It would seem rather redundant, to me at least, for it all to turn out to be some sort of illusion.

Hi Him,
Thanks for contributing to my thread. ![]() Another reason I thought that island Cooper might not be real is that The Others always seem to be claiming to be the 'good guys' and are always delivering lectures to the Losties on their moral values. It just seems bizarre in that case that they would encourage Locke to kill Cooper and even bring him to the island for that purpose. However, Ben claimed Locke brought Cooper to the island - how? Just because Locke thought about Cooper occasionally? |
