Default Ideas exchange between Doctor Who and Lost

Id just thought Id make a general comment on this. Ill put this in both Doctor Who and Lost because it is relevant to both. However this thread is for more Lost related discussion

It seems to me like, RTD and JJ have met up to exchange ideas and such like. Because there seems to be a certain degree of cross over between Doctor Who and Lost.

Of course, Im not expecting the Daleks to appear on the lost island (though that would be cool if they did) but just in certain story lines, seem to have a certain amount of cross over - and not just the time travelling aspect of things, though that is part of it.

Take last nights episode for instance. At the end of the episode, The Doctor said that the stag beetle thingy locked onto specific moments and altered them, and then the universe corrected around them - in otherwords, "course corrected". To a larger degree, that happened with the alternative Universe that was created around Donna, in order to allow it to happen, the Universe had to "course correct". Then Donna did her own bit of course correcting her self, by making sure she made herself go left instead of going right.

I do wonder, from a Lost prespective what this could mean. Like The Doctor said himself, time isn't a straight line from cause to effect. I think I have mentioned before that "going back" doesn't necessarly mean "going back to the island". It could also mean they have to go back to the moment in time where they left and do a bit of their own "course correction".

(btw Im not implying that Doctor Who and Lost are part of the same universe, just that they have some of the same ideas and that we take an idea from one show, and use it to explain somthing in another.)

Also feel free to merge the two threads, I just wasn't sure where to put this.

There are certainly parallels and cross overs, although I feel this is more indicative of popular scifi more than anything.

Lost has made scifi more accessible and 'fun' to the masses and it brings many scifi concepts and notions into the mainstream better than any other 'popular' show. So whilst I do agree that DW shares some aspects of Lost (particularly in relation to time and time-travel), I do feel that it's borne from years of 'scifi' programes. Indeed, Lost borrows from all of the classic and not so classic scifi shows and movies and novels - Twilight Zone, The Original Doctor Who(!), Star Trek, Star Wars, Third Policemand etc etc.

It could be argued that the real skill behind Lost is it's ability to repackage what has already been seen in previous scifi/genre shows (i.e. popular culture), but doing it in a most unique and original way.

Therefore I think we could find parallels in any other scifi show..especially those which dabble in time, which is most of them..even Heroes, for instance.

I think the thing which makes Lost and DW seem so 'close' is the weight that both shows carry within their respective fanbases. Both shows have the credibility (although DW is farcical at times) and the understanding of what they're trying to repackage to their audiences. Both shows creators also have great imagination.

I believe that the similarities between the prominent scifi themes of both shows is neither intentional nor coincidental..rather it's part of what I call 'The Stream of Consciousness'. We (as people) feed off one another..our influences are borne from the stream from whence we gather. Thus us scifi fans gather at the stream of consciousness and we indulge heavily in the boundaries of possibility.

I agree esn.

I seriously think the doctor who writers [especially RTD] have been watching too much lost though tbh.
