Are You Really All Haters?

Everyone on this forum seems to really hate someone on the show, eg: Abbott/Kate, JB/Locke, Ki/Jack, Rocco/Everyone who isn't Ben and I'm starting to think that I'm the only person who doesn't hate anyone, which I think is a little sad really Of course, there's characters I like better than others, but I'd never stoop to say any of them were bad as they're all interesting in their own way. I mean, I love to hate Charles Widmore, but I can't hate-hate him because if he wasn't there I'd miss him (if that makes any sense) So really... I reckon you all just say you hate these characters because you secretly love them I can't see how it's possible to dislike them so much

And yes, I know I sound rather hippy-ish

Hmmm, well - I hate Kate, Locke, Ben and Sun. My hatred of Sun is irrational because she's done nothing to make me dislike her. I just chose to hate her, lol. But it's not that I hate them if that makes sense? The characters are wonderful - really good, and the show wouldn't be the same without them. But still - I hate them.

I think it's more, as you suggest - "I love to hate...." sort of thing. And Kate and Locke fall into that catergory. Kate, well, Kate is like a curse word with me. If, for example, I fall over it'll be 'damn kate!", lol. Locke, I just hate him because a) it's fun to hate him b) I like my Boone/Locke/Whispering arguments with Ki and c) just coz. Ben, well, he's a bad man, lol and Sun, like I said - there's no real reason, I just do.

But no, there's no secret love at all

I've been saying the same stuff for years. I don't hate any of the characters. I'll find some posts of mine which say so.

Reed seems to think I hate Kate though, but he's wrong.

But it's well known that human interaction in any medium harbours hatred of stuff.

I quite genuinely hate Locke and Ben and - not quite as potently - Jack. But I probably wouldn't feel half so passionate about it if I wasn't involved in a debating forum ... it's odd how worked up you can get when you're challenged.

I wouldn't think much differently about Jack though, even if it was just me seething at home on my own.

I hate Ben (only in jest) because he gives me the creeps and I can't stand Desmond but wouldn't go as far as to say I hate him

I know it's not very healthy to hate a fictional tv character, but I really really can't stand Jack: he's just an awful person with less than zero personality and interest about him. But I've always said that he's an integral part of Lost, and if he was removed the show would drastically change imo for the worse. Unlike if Kate was killed off I doubt the show - well apart from the sorry Jate/Skate sagas - would be effected much at all.

And I agree with Murg that your love or hate feelings towards a certain character often flare higher when you're in a debate with someone who feels the exact opposite of you. Which is no bad thing really, because the best debates often get quite heated! But not when they threaten to incinerate the whole forum though...

Actually it's pretty cool how this thread has turned out. It's interesting to see who dislikes who. Like Easily Confused... how can you not stand Desmond?

I don't hate any of the characters, but there are some that I genuinely cannot stand:- Sayid, Katie, Claire, Karl, Bernie..

Then there's others who I kinda like but kinda can't stand: Jack, Rousseau, Jules..

Currently i'm not sure where to place Ford..he's kinda faded into the background lately and so he's off my radar (not sure why my radar doesn't do the same for Claire).

Anyhoo, I think it's important to have characters that you despise as much as it's important to have those whom you love and can indetify with.

The thing is, personally i cannot identify with the likes of Claire and Kate. Neither do I find them particularly attractive or appealing (although Kate sometimes..in the right light). Which is the very thng which endears me to Nikki (ah, sweet lil superficial Nikki). In fact the likes of Claire/Kate etc just get on my last nerves.

I guess whilst I despise the Sayid's and Jack's of this world, I have at least (up to now) enjoyed them as characters. Sayid needs a smack but he's bloody interesting. Whereas Claire (for example) is like the Black Rock - a vessel which set sail and somehow crashed on the land, which most people have now forgotten about I hate how she bores me. I hate how she wails and i hate how she treated our beloved Chucky

There's reason to hate Claire, I feel. But i do not 'hate' her per se (hates a strong word)..rather I cannot stand the woman.

So yeah, I love the characters who i can identify with..the characters who i'd be like if i was on the island - Locke, Eko, Ben, Des, Niks, Lulu..and of course SCOTT

I want to like Kate cos she's our lead lady..but until I sell my soul:

I'm kinda with you on that one. I think Desmond's saving grace with me is that he's attractive. Otherwise I'd be like, "Get away!" I don't trust him, there's something shifty about him, lol

However, I love him when he's with Penny. He's like a total other person. So perhaps Penny is indeed his saving grace, lol.

See that's interesting - most people love Des, so it's weird to hear this. Although thinking about it, he has got this side to him..he's rather an angry person, although i like to think that's because he's made mistakes that he's desperately tryiing to (course) correct. But yeah, his looks help
