Well Ben wouldn't be halfway as interesting without Locke, and really Locke needs Ben for his character to move forward.

Well I would say that Locke's character has been moving back since the arrival of Ben I can see that Ben is supposed to help Locke move forward but i feel it has failed and dare i say it has made Locke ever so slightly pointless

There's not much in life that would make me use the term 'hate', so it seems a bit excessive to use the term when referring to fictional characters. Ironically though, it almost makes it easier and less vitriolic because they are fictional characters.

So I'd have to say I HATE, HATE, HATE Jack, Kate and Juliet with enormous passion. I utterly despise them, everything they say, everything they do even when they're not saying or doing anything. It infuriates me beyond belief that Jack and Kate are the shows' 'leading' characters and that contributes greatly to my hatred. In a show with such superb acting talent, I find it wholly offensive that they are considered the leads. I despised Jack from The Pilot. I find him abhorrent in every possible way, from the way he's portrayed by Matthew Fox, to how totally devoid of personality or interest he is on every. single. level. His character arc is trite and even though we know we'll have to tolerate him for some time into the future, if not until the bitter end, finding out more about his specific journey is purely a means to an end for me. Also, in aesthetic terms he makes me and I think only Mick Hucknall produces a worse physical reaction from me. My disdain knows no bounds.

Basically Kate instills the same emotions as the above, although the shallowness of her character and her being a complete cow add to it significantly.

As for Juliet, her saving grace is that she's not as bad as the other two. I think it has helped and hindered her in equal measures to share so many scenes with the wonderful Ben. On the one hand the level of interest has been heightened by this interaction but at the same time she pales into insignificance in his shadow. She's been greatly let down as a character with the creation of the whole Jack/Kate triangle thing. It was unnecessary and somewhat lessened her ability to impact as a strong independent character. Oh and also I get a perverse satisfaction from hating JB's favourite character too because the Locke hate gives me sleepless nights....

Ive never 'hated' a tv character. I mean, ive never had a conversation with one, so how could i?

Also most of the lost contingent are lovable imo. I think the only one id really struggle with is cooper.

I wouldn't say that I hate anybody with the kind of passion I see displayed here. I do love to hate some characters... and I find some characters boring or pointless and feel that they're taking up too much screentime. Or I'm just disappointed because they seemed promising at the start of the show, but have turned out to be boring and pointless (Kate).

So some time passes. Locke punches Charlie in the face repeatedly when Charlie obviously isn't himself. We then find out this is under entirely hypocritical circumstances. So Locke feels free to smash the living bells out of a mentally unstable person for being dependant on drugs, when he himself worked with drug growers? Hypocritical no? This is one "quality" that I cannot stand in people. Hypocrites infuriate me; I hate them. Therefore, I'm not overly fond of Locke.

See, I know how you feel - these are exactly the kind of discussions that make me annoyed with the late Charlie all over again, more than I ever was at the time when those episodes aired. People who blame Locke for punching Charlie sound just as deluded as he himself was in season 2. For starters, comparing freaking marihuana or John's wacky paste to HEROIN? WTF? Ridiculous beyond belief. Even if some of the fans are clueless in that respect, Charlie should have at least have been aware of what heroin does to a person, instead of stupidly ranting in Further Instructions: "you will have to punch yourself in the face..." Yeah, you know, Charlie, he should have... if he ever kidnapped a baby and set fire to a camp, like you did!
And that's the thing that amazes me even more - that so many people cried over poor Charlie being punched in the face 3 times, and blamed evil Locke for that horribly undeserved punishment... And then, more importantly, completely forgeting the tiny little detail that he didn't punch Charlie just for being hooked on drugs... but for kidnapping baby Aaron from his mother and endangering his life. Whether he was hooked on heroin, having a withdrawal, or just having wacky religious dreams - does it really matter? So Locke lost his temper with him, oh, that means he's eeevil! What do you think would happen if you set a fire to a camp full of people, and then kidnapped a baby from its mother and tried to push it into the ocean, screaming that you need to have it "baptized" (even though you're not even a priest in any shape or form)? I think you'd be very lucky if 3 punches to the face were the only punishment you received!

But it's well known that human interaction in any medium harbours hatred of stuff.
