It's like one of those 'enlightenment' journies which rarely make sense. I mean, if you look at the man he was before the island - angry etc (other things i can't be bothered to list) and, well he still gets pretty angry, but he's turning into a better man. And he's damn closer to any of the other losties to find out what the heck is going on. I reckon he's going to end up knowing more than Ben towards the end (if they're not all dead, that is )

It doesn't make sense because it's a load of twaddle. He's still the same angry, lonely man with no sense of direction. He wanted a sense of purpose off Island, thought he found it with Cooper and ended up being disappointed and angry. He thought he found it with Helen, and ended up being disappointed and angry (through his own fault). He thought he found it through the Island, he's ended up being disappointed and angry. He thought he found it with Ben and the Others, he's ended up being disappointed and angry. That's not a journey, it's a boring circle.

John Locke gave Sayid both the knife and the concrete idea Sawyer was the one that hit him in the head when he had solved the radio problem. This gave Sayid the motive and the means to stab Sawyer in the arm and would have lead to his death if it wasn't for Jack.

You've got a point, but really you can't say its one big circle until we see the end of the show. The last episode could be him froicking with Jacob in the valley after finally finding his place And to be honest I don't even know why I'm arguing ing his favour, cos I don't really get it either! Really, I can't say I care all that much either

I love these 'it wasn't the person who did its fault it was the person who gave them this or that' excuses

a) Locke didn't know Sayid was a torturer, so how would he know that Sayid would go and pull Sawyer to bits?
b) Fair enough he put the blame on Sawyer, but nearly everyone on that show has lied about something
c) They probably would have done it anyway just to find out where Shannon's asthma inhalers were. Sayid was itching to rough up someone

Sayid would not have gone near Sawyer with such violent intentions if Locke hadn't convinced him that it was Sawyer who hit him. I'm not denying that Sayid would have tortured him, that isn't up for debate, but what I'm saying is he wouldn't have been so blinded with rage and gone running at him with a knife if it hadn't been for Locke's lie. Right after Kate comes out and tells them Sawyer doesn't have the inhalers, Sayid says "He's the one that hit me from behind and destroyed the equipment". If it wasn't for Locke this idea wouldn't have been in Sayid's head. This proves to be the catalyst for Sayid to go gung-ho with the knife. A knife, by the way, which he wouldn't have had if it wasn't for Locke. I'll also add that Locke gave him the knife fully knowing that Sayid was going to harm Sawyer. Surely this shows something about Johnny boy?
