If at any time I start to warm to Des then it is because of his relationship with Penny but then again she can irritate me too but I have no idea why she does, its like sometimes I like her sometimes I could really do without her

I don't get the Des hatred, I must admit, but to each his/her own. Also I somehow neglected to mention my most powerful hatreds (like, more than Jack) - Tom and Pickett, particularly Tom. That flares up whenever anyone refers to the malicious, sadistic, raft-exploding, child-snatching git as 'a decent chap at heart'. So yeah ... being on a forum makes a huge difference ....

I absolutely detest Locke. It's a pretty well knwon thing round these parts by now. There is nothing in a TV show, apart from My Super Sweet 16, Kerry Katona, R n B music, Arsenal, old people and reality TV, that conjures such unbridaled fury within me as the bald headed wonder.

Now this wasn't always the case, oh no, during Season 1 I actually liked Locke. Seriously. I found him interesting, a very cool character and even likable. In episodes such as the Moth he is a truly nice character (hate the word nice but can't think of another). But once Do No Harm aired I found myself questioning the man with the shiny head. I mean he was the direct cause of Boone's death wasn't he? I mean he sent Boone up with pretty much no regard for him, into a precariously perched plane. Which I could have forgiven him for because, after all, Boone should have got the hell out when he felt the plane first wobble. He then practically redeemed himself when he carried Boone all the way back to camp (though to be honest there was very little other option to go by). But then he lied about it. Locke surely knew that he needed to tell Jack exactly what happened in order for him to survive, yet he tells Jack false information which directly leads to Boone's death. Murder via proxy number 1 for John Locke.

And then we had his wacking of Sayid revealed (that sounds fairly dodgy but nevermind). Again this didn't bother me in earnest, despite him clearly preventing other people being rescued for his own selfish needs. But then we think back to Confidence Man. Who put the knife in Sayid's hand and clearly planted the thought in Sayid's head that it was Sawyer who wacked him? Who was the direct cause of Sayid wanting to physically harm Sawyer? No, it wasn't Sawyer, although he didn't help matters. It was John Locke. Locke gave him the knife and Locke planted the idea. A plantation which, by the way, was a flat out lie. Alot of characters have been, rightfully, blasted for lying in Lost. Sun, Jules and Ben come immediately to mind. But John boy? Oh no.

So some time passes. Locke punches Charlie in the face repeatedly when Charlie obviously isn't himself. We then find out this is under entirely hypocritical circumstances. So Locke feels free to smash the living bells out of a mentally unstable person for being dependant on drugs, when he himself worked with drug growers? Hypocritical no? This is one "quality" that I cannot stand in people. Hypocrites infuriate me; I hate them. Therefore, I'm not overly fond of Locke.

More time passes, other stuff that makes me hate Locke happens. There's murder no. 2 - Mikhail. He shoves another human being through a sonic fence fully knowing it could (and more than likely will) kill him. So he survives, but we now know that Patchy can survive a run in with angry bears and alligators if the situation happens. So even if this can't be classed as murder anymore, then is it not attempted murder? Attempted murder like Jack pulling a certain trigger? Then there was The Brig. Perhaps the less I say about this the better. Sawyer got a hell of a lot of flack and I know you can take a horse to water but can't make it drink (that is unless you shove it's face in the river). But if you don't take the horse to water it can't drink. Locke took that horse and he pushed it's nose into that puddle until it couldn't damn well breathe.

But one thing that I know so many find endearing about Locke is his blind faith. I hate it. Yes it was cute in the first season where he felt he had a connection with the Island because it healed him. I could appreciate that. But when it gets to the point when he feels he can't make a single decision without being told what to do, when he follows orders from things that seem positively stupid (Walt appearing), I lose all sympathy. I know you're a man of faith Locke, but for once in your god forsaken life just take a step back and think: is this rational? Does it really make sense to do this? Does what common sense you have tell you that this is the right thing to do? Should you really freaking listen to the bloody talking toad? It infuriates me. It sends pulsations of hatred throughout me. It sends pulsations of hatred from me to Locke.

But, as some very clever person said before me, it is the fact that I get to interact with people and see the reactions they have towards Locke that really pushes grave annoyance into hatred. It is completely beyond me how Locke has the biggest fan base in Lost. Many people will argue against this saying Sawyer or Jack have bigger fan bases. These people are wrong. Locke has more fans than any other Lost character and I state this with supreme confidence. And this is despite all the other qualities I've listed above. What causes me to hate the character is the fact that no matter what he does people defend him. The things that other characters get slated for, he gets off scott (or Steve) free with. If anyone else threw a knife into someone's back there would be all hell loose. When Locke does it it's immediately overlooked. It's Locke fans that cause me to hate Locke. I hate Locke because others love him uncontrollably. But I hate Locke nontheless.

Wow everybody! Guess who JB hates? lol I'm not sure I want to follow that. Personally, I don't hate any of the characters either. They are all an integral part of the story and the show would not be the same without any of them. There are some who at times can seriously grate on my nerves, (Locke, Michael, Claire, Jack) but I also (and I know I'm going to be berated for this) love Jack and Kate.

I reserve the right to pick on all of them anytime I choose when they make bad choices, constantly use unusual facial expressions, make bad decisions when it comes to men, murder people, have funny laughs, etc. They are like my family. Except for the murdering people part. They do all sorts of bad things but you love them anyway, because life would not be the same without them. For me its a package deal.

Yeah I agree completely. If one of them makes a wrong/stupid decision, it doesn't make me hate them, it just proves that they're wrong/stupid

Anyhoo, I think it's important to have characters that you despise as much as it's important to have those whom you love and can indetify with.

The thing is, personally i cannot identify with the likes of Claire and Kate. Neither do I find them particularly attractive or appealing (although Kate sometimes..in the right light). Which is the very thng which endears me to Nikki (ah, sweet lil superficial Nikki

). In fact the likes of Claire/Kate etc just get on my last nerves.

I guess whilst I despise the Sayid's and Jack's of this world, I have at least (up to now) enjoyed them as characters. Sayid needs a smack but he's bloody interesting. Whereas Claire (for example) is like the Black Rock - a vessel which set sail and somehow crashed on the land, which most people have now forgotten about

I hate how she bores me. I hate how she wails and i hate how she treated our beloved Chucky

There's reason to hate Claire, I feel. But i do not 'hate' her per se (hates a strong word)..rather I cannot stand the woman.

So yeah, I love the characters who i can identify with..the characters who i'd be like if i was on the island - Locke, Eko, Ben, Des, Niks, Lulu..and of course SCOTT

I want to like Kate cos she's our lead lady..but until I sell my soul:

I think hate is a strong word. I think I went off Locke in season 1 because people kept idolising him as some kind of God! but I'm now starting to like him again.

Bennie Liar - I just don't get whats to like. Yes hes an interesting character so similar to Roco's hatred of Sayid I'd like to give Ben a smack!

Claire - boring - whiney Claire. I mean Nikki and Shannon were there for decoration so why is Claire still there? Shes not interesting or decoration!

Kate - I love my Kate hate. What would I do without swampy being around? I hate everything about Kate as a character. Shes never payed the rpice of her crimes. In fact it took the judge a good 5 minutes of Eggtown to list the charges!!. The acting from Ms Lilly is sometimes very very suspect. Shes good at some things but really bad at others.

Jack - Like Ki said - hes just got really really boring. I think this happened in season 2 sometime as I, at first, liked his character.

Bernard - again YAWN!!!!!!!!!! This guy makes me want to paint my TV and watch it dry. Hes the most pointless boring character EVER on a TV show EVER! - I only put up with him cos if he dies then Shannon's death was for nothing!!
I think I like everybody else though
