Why do people like Daniel?

It's really bemused me how many people have said that they really like Daniel Faraday I mean I've even heard someone say that he was their new favourite character. Personally my first impression was a very bad one.

He seems to be a hell of a lot like Jack for me. I mean how can you not take an instant dislike to someone crying and they don't know why? That scene actually made me want to laugh hysterically and vomit at the same time. I mean he's a grown man sat there crying and when asked why he said "I don't know"? That, for me, was so disgustingly cringe-worthy lol.

For me he's a new Karl. A whinging little coward of the group. Why is he there? What is he doing? Why don't I care? All of these are questions raised about Mr. Faraday. However the most important one is why do people seem to like his cowardly, snivelling tendancies? I'm not particularly a fan of characters that you feel you could beast in a fight just by looking at them, and that is the case with Daniel.

So can someone please explain why the hell they like Daniel??

I like him because he's not like any of the other characters. Jack and Sawyer are kind of merging with their Kate obsession and their spontaneous violent outbursts. Miles is doing the whole, sarcastic angry guy thing *ahemsawyerahem* Charlotte is being all... well... boring... and I like Frank so I'm not going to start on him. He's kind of got his own character like Charlie did, and Hurley has and Locke. My reason is in amongst all that crap somewhere so if you find it, you can have a turnip
and so what if he was crying? does that mean everytime someone new starts crying they're the new Jack? Everyone has cried Apart from Jin I think, but he's hardcore.

He seems like a really nice guy and is the most likeable out of The Freighters - well in part with Frank.

Re: his crying - I believe he probably has some kind of connection with Flight 815 in one way or another. Each Freighter has had a connection with the Island it would seem prior to being recruited and I would include Daniel in this. Why? - I am not sure just yet.

He obviously told his wife/girlfriend he did not know why he was crying because she is in the unknown about his line of work?

He is not like Jack imo, I do not feel he is cowardly nor snivelling - he simply appears to be a generally nervous guy. Something I can forgive him being that he just parachuted onto the Island and is suddenly faced by Jack & Kate who not only outnumbered him but kept asking probing questions.

I think people who seem "weak" as it were are not necessarily liked from the get-go - nor are they necessarily weak. If I recall Ben had no problem beating Sawyer to the ground in S3 - yet Ben appears small and physically weak while people detest him in every sense of the word. Granted he is a "Baddie", but so presumably is Daniel yet people like him.

Lost does not really have that pure person - someone whom is genuinly nice to the core. Daniel seems like that person.

I think the only reason I like him is that I hate the rest of the Freighters. He seems to be the best one.

i like him because he seems genuine.
you get all of these random people who never seem to make any sense. but to me, Daniel just seems like a down to earth guy.

JB that's cruel to compare poor Dan to awful Jack!

I wouldn't say he's a coward either; in fact I'd say he's pretty much the opposite of one, because it's clear that he's quite a nervous and jumpy guy and is not a natural liar or completely comfortable in his role on the island, yet he's getting on with it anyway. He's trying to stay loyal to his team but at the same time isn't all heavy handed with the Losties (like Miles), and I just...like him! In the same way that I don't like Charlotte I just got an instant feeling for him. I also like the way he came out with that 'the light bends funny' line; like Locke in a way he just says things that he sees and believes without caring (or possibly thinking) what other people think, and I really like that.

Because, at the moment, he reminds me of myself; his seemingly bumbling in social situations, his inability to keep his mouth shut and how easily he seems he could be manipulated.
