Penelope & island search

is there already a thread on this?...what's the deal with penelope and the scientists? my thinking so far is that it seems that pen has paid for those scientist guys to station themselves in the south pole (would be the nearest place to look like that?) and to monitor the planet for 'electromagnetic anomalies'. and why else but that she knows that desmond is on an island producing these anomalies, so by finding them she will find him. but how does she know all this??? and is her father involved with the island? i saw someone linked him to widmore labs that made claire's medicine. was desmond sent there deliberately?
and what if the moment they found him was the same moment that he turned the key (and killed himself?!)

theories please!!!

I think she knows someting about this as her father I think is involved with the islnad as he owns widmore labs who was on Suns pregnancy test.

She also said to desmond that with a lot of money and determination you can find anything.

The extent to which her and her father are involved with dharma/the island i'm not sure, but to feature penny at the end like that looks like shes going to play a big part in series 3

I was shocked to discover she was english in real life - very dodgy. She was on Goodnight Sweetheart apparently as Ron's girlfriend!!

I think Pen will play a big part but we won't see much of it because I think that was just a glimmer of what was happening outside but we will focus on the island again knowing that someone has found them so to speak.

I would imagine Jim from neighbours will pop up from time to time in flashbacks as we find out more about Widmore labs or whatever other businesses are linked to Dharma (if they are!).

Its kind of made Desmond more important know so I can't see killing him off would do the show any favours really.

I think that she'd put some sort of tracking device on the boat Desmond was sailing on, but what ever was "clocking" the island was blocking the signal from getting through, then when the key was turned and it did what ever it was it did the boats tracking device was seen.
Maybe the tracking device was in one of them black box type things they have on planes so she knew that the boat hadn't just been destroyed cause the black box always survives.

or maybe she was working with Libby and Libby planted a beacon on the boat. Wouldn't out it past that secretive, lying woman.

I'm so unsure on Libby, when we saw her in Hurleys flashback i didn't think much to it, but to be in Desmonds and to give him a boat. Coincidence my arse!

i think libby is working for hanso/dharma so that's how they got desmond to sail there. and mr widmore was in on it too and set up the whole race thing (with a route that took desmond near the island?) but i've a feeling that penelope didn't send him there and wasn't in on it, but perhaps was scared something bad would happen to him because of her nasty dad, so, as you say planted a device for him/is now searching for him.

I would agree that Libby isn't what she seems and it's too coincidental for her to be in Hurley's flashbacks and then randomly give Des a boat.
Who does that, really?

Anyway, as for Pen, I think her father is involved somehow but I haven't worked out how yet. And I would agree that she has paid those guys a ton of money to find Des.
I wonder if she ever got married in the end?

Penny might NOT know where they are, because didnt the scientists mention something about happened again?? also they were in a fuss on how long it had been running.... this brings me to thing that the first time they thought they'd found desmond was when he forgot to press the button. but then entered it quickly. which leads me to believe they cant find them because they only noticed the electro-magnet thing AFTER desmond turned the fail-safe. so this would be the same as last time which means they cant have found them. also i think the real question is how does penny know shes looking for a magnet??? GOD i hope they dont get found by penny and co.

It seems plausible that Penny's father caused Desmond to end up on the island in order to get rid of him. Perhaps he knew of the island through connections with Hanso, and had found out that no-one who goes there ever returns. Perhaps Penny found this out by snooping through paperwork or eavesdropping.

Maybe we'll have an off-island Penny-centric episode with flashback next season, and find all this out. 'Cause, they're always giving us easy answers to these kind of quesions!

Plus widmore made the pregnancy test Sawyer gave sun, just thought I'd slip that in I think Pen's father worked with Hanso cos he had enough money, and from what we heard in the episode, he was the won who organised the race, get Libby to help out by giving Desmondo the ol' boat and hey! You've got him on the island and an easy way for Pen to track him!

Isn't it interesting that the first thing these guys do is phone Penny rather than some official when their computer shows "magnetic anomaly" on the screen?

They can't be looking for a tracking device on Desmonds boat. They are looking for the island, and Penny suspects thats where Desmond is so thats why she set these two guys up "with a lot of money and determination".

Also she did not know he was going on this boat race before Libby gave Desmond the boat, she only found out at the stadium, when he said he was doing this to get his honour back.

Oh, and I agree, Desmond can't be dead, anyone new to Lost in S3 surely would not understand the point of her if she discovered the island but he's no longer on it.

And another thing. If Michael had not shot Libby, she and Desmond would have met. That would have changed everything, so thats the reason she died.
