It is quite obvious now that Christian Shephard is the most significant flashback character by miles. Not only has he appeared in other peoples flashback (Sawyer and Ana-Lucia), one of which turned out to be a triple-crossover (the very first I think) he also had a meaningful interaction with them. Unlike practically all the other cross-overs where the interaction with a character is superficial (example: Nadia and Locke).
And unlike all the other flashback characters, he has been seen on the island Now what does it mean. And will he appear in someone elses flashback in S3? For example, being the surgeon Locke consults over the loss of his legs. Too bloody predictable that one, though.

Dave has been seen on the island, but he's not real, so I guess that doesn't count..........
I agree that Christian is really significant, although I can't help but wonder whether other flashback characters will be just as significant once we've seen more of them...... there's still a few series to go...... He could have been anyone's doctor (especially Rose or Locke's), but like you say, thats probably a bit too obvious now. We still need to know about his 'daughter' - which IMO will be a major link to someone else on the island.... and we still don't know how/when he died, or even if his body was on the plane!! (maybe he's not really dead?) Definately a significant man..... there's also Locke's dad, Kate's dad, the real sawyer, Kate's Tom - hopefully many more months of glorious triple double cross-over encounters. ![]()

He's definatley dead, Jack saw him in a body bag in Sydney (sorry about quashing your idea). It would be interesting if he turned out to be Locke or Rose's doctor (or both
) but the producers rarely make things predictable, but hopefully the man of the flashbacks, Christian Shepard will make a reappearence! I thought at first maybe he was Claire's dad, the woman definatley looked abit like her, and lived in Australia, but somehow i don't see the producers going in that direction, but i agree his daughter will be a link to the survivours, wonder if Jack knows he has a sister? ![]()

Stubble? nope. Smirk? nope. Not looking people in the eye when talking to them? nope. I think you are right! Good theory! No, seriously, that could be why their relationship so far has been strictly "professional". No flirting, nothing. No real incest in other words! ![]()

Yes, we DID see Christian in a body bag.
I just saw my dog sleeping. Is HE dead? No. I think Christian was taking a nap. Or, it wasn't Christian, it was some manakin. Im not so sure. |

Oh, and one more thing that stands out: His cross-over with Sawyer is the only one that the characters on the island know about - he recognised Jack as this mans son.

Not QUITE true.
I think Locke knows Hurley owns his box company, but won't admit it. And also I think Hurley knows now about Libby. But I'm not so sure. Libby definitely knows about him. |

I think he means the only sighting that BOTH people have properly acknowledged, Hurley's adknowledging he's seen Libby before but can't remember where from, Libby knows where he's seen her from but tried to convince him it's because he stepped on her toe on the plane, whereas in the case of jack and sawyer acknowledging Sawyer's meeting with Christian, he actually came out and told Jack so Jack would know who he was talking about

And there is another difference: Christian is the middle man between Jack and Sawyer, so noting that is quite an achievement. "Thats why the red socks never won the championship" was it? Hurley and Libby, Locke and Hurley - they are both on the island. Which is also the case for Jack and Desmond, who are in the same category.

Interesting old thread. I wonder what everyone has to say now that we know that Christian is definitely a lot more than just a flashback character.
It's great that he didn't turn out to be Locke's doctor, since this makes Locke seeing him in the Cabin all the more weirder. Not to mention Michael seeing him on the freighter. In every other case, people have seen persons that they knew off or on island, but neither Locke nor Michael had any idea who Christian was. Which blows any 'it's just a vision' theory to pieces. |
