Privacy Policy

Lost Community UK values the importance of privacy and we are wholly committed to safe-guarding the privacy of our members.

The Lost Community UK is currently Ad free, though we do have affiliates. None of your personal information is passed on to any of our affiliates. Affiliates are in place to help us to privde our members with content which they might be interested in (i.e LOST merchandise). Using the affiliate links thorugh the LC helps increase the prospect of more goodies being put up for competition prizes.

When registering we obtain general information (such as your email) which enables you to gain membership at the LC. This also helps to prove (validate) any membership requests/changes that you wish to make (for example should you need to change your password etc).

Cookies
When you visit the LC you have the option of having the 'cookies' remember you (so to speak). All this does is ensure that your LC viewing preferences/config remain as you previously left them. As with virtually all internet sites a cookie is referenced to you when you first visit. This does not indentify any personally indentifiable info at all..what it does is allow your computer to recognise a particular sites settings via a string of numbers, thus enabling you to have easier browsing. So, for example can choose to be automatically logged in (saves the hassel) the next time that you visit the site - if you ticked the 'remember me' box. It also maintains other settings that you may have configured such as posts read etc. All of this is to help your browsing. You can delete cookies by clicking on the 'delete board cookies' option near the bottom right of the board - this removes all of your cookie settings.

Member Warning/Ban History
At the LC each member has a warning log relevent to them. Now what this does is enable Admin/Mods to keep track of a members warn/ban/suspension history. This allows us to make more accurate decisions on any future bans/suspensions/promotions (etc) as we can instantly recall and add to a members warn level. Essentially, the more that you comply with our board rules, the cleaner your warn history will be. This is purely a membership tool and is only connected with your 'member' history For more info on warn history and bans and suspension, see the FAQ.

Personal Messages (PM)
I would like to stress the use of the word 'Personal' in Personal Message (PM). Personal Messages are just that...PERSONAL. This means that the content of messages are not and SHOULD NOT be posted up on the public board. It is a breach of law and personal respect to post up a PM on the board. We believe that our members should be responsible enough to refrain from doing this.

Also, please do not advertise using the PM system. If you would like to use the LC to make members aware of your product, site or company (etc) then simply ask Admin. I am far more likely to allow you to place a link to your product/site (etc) if you gain 'express permission' (that means ive actually said the words 'yes') first. If you experience a member or a spambot advertising on via PM, please report to Admin.

So, to clarify - PM's are and should be kept personal (between you and the sender/s) and should comply with our policies. As long as our policies are upheld then PM's will continue to be enabled on our boards and more PM storage allowed (higher ranks already benefit from increased storage - see 'Ranks' for more).

Prizes
From time to time we may run competitions with prizes. Sometimes I arrange for the prize to be obtained by you from a trusted retailer. In this case, you will be asked whether you are happy for the retailer to contact you (usually via PM) in order to arrange for you to obtain the prize. I pre-pay for the prize and then all of the dealings is passed over to the retailer, who then arranges with the prize winner when and how they can receive their prize. This basically means that myself and the LC are NOT connected with this part of the process. I simply pay for the prize and thats it. No personal details will be passed on to the LC. As I said, I am committed to protecting and respecting member privacy.

In some cases I might be sent products from LOST Merchandisers. In the case of prizes I will ask the winning member if they are happy for the Staff Team to send the prize to them. Any information given to us is purely used for delivery of the prizes and is destroyed immediately after dispatch of the item. Also, it is a members choice whether or not they wish to accept this method of prize distribution. Most of our prizes will be like the explanation above, but in the instance where prizes are sent to us from Lost merchandisers we give you this option since the first one is not possible.
