I think you make a very good point 108.

For lost it would be too simple to have Charlie be the one Des is saving and I do now also think its Claire he is saving. It makes sense; Maybe Des knows that he is saving Claire but tells Charlie it is him, to test him, see if he will collaspe under the strain of the knowledge, or face up to it and grow as a person. Maybe its another test?

Yes nice idea 108 - I wouldn't be that surprised if Des' story was not all it seemed, and that he was really trying to save Claire, either solely or alongside Charlie. If it comes down to it though, personally I think he should focus on Claire and leave Charlie to fend for himself
