Aye, great though Desmond is, he's no leader.
He's been alone for so long that he's not fully integrated with the group yet as shown by his sometimes odd behaviour (skipping stones away from the group during Locke's speech).
that's a good point, about not being able to lead people you don't know sort of thing. Maybe as he gets to know the other people he'll turn out a different person but if he doesn't i still can't see him being a leader type person, or Jack (if he does return) letting him take over.

I can't see Desmond being the leader of the camp at all really. I don't think he has the qualities needed, and the fact that he isn't even a survivor of Flight 815 like the rest of them is another major point - he really is a newcomer in the eyes of the camp, no doubt.

That question stuck out (among the millions you asked in that post! )

Especially considering Lockes 'dream' (which could also be interpreted as a 'murky' "flash&quot which said he's "helping himself".

Do you think Des is telling us the whole story? I wonder, has Des seen (via 'flash') himself come near to death, only to be saved by Charlie - and thus 'saving' Charlie is in essence, saving himself ?

Mmm interesting.

Most interesting..most interesting indeed

Even the way in which that Locke dream sequences was shot, was a bit like a 'flash' wasnt it

See this is interesting because technically Locke has 'also' seen (or been informed of) the future. This MUST tie in with Des somehow!

I certainly also believe that it's possible that Des is helping himself..or that he has seen his own fate (death?) and is saving his own hide under the pretence of saving Chucks. Afterall..he is a "coward" (or so they say )
