Number Six (and people may tell me to stop soon lol.)
He didn’t make much of an impression on me in MOSMOF to be honest; I thought that he wasn’t too bad and he had a few decent lines (‘blow his damned head off brother’) was one of them and the fact that he knew Jack was intriguing but when he ran away I wasn’t bothered if he came back or not. I knew long beforehand that he was going to come back thanks to some jerks in C4 posting topics entitled ‘is Desmond now dead’ and ‘Desmond’s boat’ so I wasn’t shocked by his return but I was by how seamlessly he fitted in. He was a breath of fresh air in amongst the Locke hatch saga (ironic considering he started it off) and I found myself warming to him when it was revealed how he and Locke had saved each other – and that still remains one of my favourite season two scenes. Then the writers decide to give him some mystery – how is he psychic? What else does he know and so on and so forth and even though people keep saying that his character is being wasted, I don’t think that the writers should develop the plot too fast. He’s been in three episodes and already had two premonitions (Locke’s speech and the lightning) so it is currently at a rate of one every one and a half episodes which is quite good going. And there is still room for development in his flashbacks; we don’t know why he was in the prison (except that he couldn’t follow orders) and we don’t know anything about his childhood; or much about his relationship with Penny and it’s nice to have a character like that, as opposed to someone like Kate who we have now seen practically everything (even Jack still has something left to offer with his tattoos.) Anyway, I’m rambling but in conclusion I’m voting that he’s a good character and I like him and he keeps climbing up my character list (now probably upper-middle lol.)

He's a good character and I like him. I was really intrigued by him in MOFMOS and after he ran I really hoped we'd see more of him. (Although perhaps not as much as Hurley saw!
) I agree AP, that the writers are right not to rush his story as all the mystery around him is a massive part of the appeal. He has tremendous character potential not only with finding out about his prison time, but why he is so hated by Jim Robinson. Adding even more intrigue to his story is the fact that Penny seems to actively looking for him (or the Island)...none of the other Losties have that as far as we know...so there's an active link with the outside world. All in, I like him a lot. It helps also that he is from a wee place about 8 miles away from me called Newton Mearns. So it's like...no way!!, there's a guy from Newton Mearns in Lost!!!! ![]()

I really like Desmond, and think he's a great character that really stands out from everyone else. Ever since his first appearance in MOSMOF I've been intrigued by him as well, and was so glad that he came back at the end of S2 and has been made a main character in S3.
The poor man's had a good few years of his life spent down the hatch, and I'm surprised he's not completely mad after being stuck down there for so long! The scene where he and Locke save each other is one of my favourites from S2, and it was so nice to see him rescued from his break down with the promise of there being life outside of the hatch. And the way that he still hasn't forgotten about Penny, like when he turned the fail safe key is just lovely of him. So far in S3 he's developed a nice air of mystery - even suspicion - about him, and I think (well hope), that he will be a key part of events for the rest of the season. So to conclude, I voted for the first option!

So it could be arged that Desmond knew about Locke's speech, but for some reason didn't tell Hurley the truth in that he (somehow) knew it would happen. Of course Des could have just dismissed what he said out of fear that Hurley would think him stark raving mad, but I'm just saying that I think there's a possibility that Des is hiding something from everyone. Maybe he only suspects he has, what, a power to fortell the future or had already lived these events or whatever's going on with him, but he wants to double check things first, hence his lightening experiment. Which is fair enough I think! Especially after surviving the hatch implosion who knows what really happened to him?

Just for the record. I didn't vote. I don't know if it's just me (probably
) but on these polls I choose the option I'm voting but then click on view/null vote by accident! Anyway, to reiterate, I like him ![]()

I remember voting view result only once, and that was on a really good poll and I was gutted I'd messed it up so have since been very careful about how I vote in them!

Desmond is a b-e-autiful character! From his first appearance at the beggining of S2, MOSMOF, he really connected with me. His character build up has been gradual, kind of like Rousseaus. I thought the idea of having him drunk on the boat was great, showing how the struggle against the elements has changed to a struggle within himself.
To me his song would be: Steriophonics - Have a Nice Day. I thought his future seeing abilities are inspired - look at MOSMOF, when he plays the optimist to Jack "but what if she is cured brother?". Then jack de-ja-vuing him was the best lost cliff hanger so far. The way Desmundo has 'gained his abilites' interests me, as I am thinking more that they have been 'awakend' within him. Top notch character, which I hope to see lots more of! Love his LTDA flashbacks ![]()

I voted for the first option.
I liked Desmond when we first met him,and knowing a little more of his backstory and seeing him in places other than the hatch has made him grow on me more. ![]()
