we need a Danielle flashback

She has been on the island for 16 years but appears not to know her way around (other than Black Rock and the Radio Tower) or to have seen the Others - the Losties have been there for 3 months and have seen the Others and have discovered the Swan, the Pearl, the Flame, the Arrow, the sonic fence, the barracks, the Hydra island, the Pala Ferry, the Looking Glass, the four toed statue and much more. She did genuinely seem to have not seen the sonic fence before when she arrived there but why has she been so reluctant to search the island, you would have thought over the 16 years that she has been there that she would have covered quite a large area of the island even if it was unintentional. The fact that the Others had kidnapped her child would imo be a damn good reason to go searching the island its not like she has anything else to do there.


She told Sayid that she has never seen the Others she has only heard whispers. Should we believe that? Like I say above they took her baby that’s a good enough reason to hunt them down.

I like many felt at the time when she first met Mikhail when he came out of the Flame that she looked like she knew who he was and I also believe she decided not to go into the Flame with them because she knew who would be in there.

When she had Benry captured in her net why did she get Sayid to come and deal with him she was the one who told Sayid that he was an Other how could she be so sure and if she really believed that they why did she not deal with him herself why did she not use him to get Alex back. The more I think about it the more I think she and Ben made a deal.

Does she know why the Others took Alex is that why she was so sure they would want to swap Alex for Aaron at the end of S1 and why if she hasn’t bothered to go looking for Alex in the past is she prepared to let Claire go through the same pain and agony of losing a child like she did. I can’t help but think that at some point during her 16 years of solitude she gave up any hope of being reunited with Alex and perhaps finding about Sayid and flight 8-15 gave her renewed hope but why did she not confide in Sayid what had happened and asked him to help her?

In “Exodus” she said to Sayid and Charlie “I heard them say they were coming for the child. The others said they were coming for the boy.” Where was she when she heard them surely it wasn’t just the whispers again. The more I think about it the more I think she has had contact with the Others I really can’t see that she was ever was an Other but I wouldn’t be surprised if she and Ben at least have been in contact over the years. Perhaps he bartered with her when they first took Alex and made deals with her and then kept changing the rules as time went by in a similar approach to the one that he used on Juliet saying they needed her on the island for just three years then she was free to go and then her three years were up but he had other ways of keeping her on the island.

We know Ben had Mikhail separate from Othersville should he need his help and he had the two girls in the Looking Glass kept away and a secret from the Others so way not have Danielle as part of his outside group.


She says she was a part of a science team when Sayid questions “A science team armed with rifles?” she has her back to him so he can’t see her reaction to that but we can and I think she looks like she has been caught out, she then carries on with her story without answering his question.

She says her boat was shipwrecked but where is it now? What has happened to her team? If her team are indeed dead like she says where are their bodies did she just leave them did she bury them. Could there be the chance that her team didn’t die. Maybe the boat was fixed if it was indeed damaged and some of the team fled the island on the boat, perhaps those team members are who she was hoping would receive her distress signal. The way she phrases the distress signal does sound like she is hoping someone who knows what she is talking about will receive the signal we know she speaks other languages but chooses to only use French and by saying “It [or he] killed them all” would imply whoever she is hoping will receive the signal knows who “it or he” is. She also says Brennan took the keys, again as if the recipient of the signal would know who Brennan is and what the importance of the key is.

What use is the key it can’t simply be the key to the Radio Tower if they wanted to get in there to leave a message then why bother with a key. Is it a real key or could it be that the key is in fact the numbers. Leonard told Hurley that by using the numbers he opened the box. Did Danielle’s team want to open a box were they looking for a key. Could it be that Leonard and Sam Toomey were part of Danielle’s team we know that Danielle’s team and Leonard and Sam both heard the transmission of the numbers 16 years ago. Did Leonard and Sam ever attempt to go to the island and if they did, did they ever make it there or did they instruct Danielle’s team to go and investigate, could that be why Leonard has gone mad does he think he was responsible for sending Danielle’s team to their deaths.

Did Danielle ever open the box? is that where she believes the sickness came from or is (as Ki in Solitary rewatch) Sullivan’s hypochondria in the same episode an indication that the sickness isn’t real its only in the mind of those who believe it to be real


She tells Sayid the Others are controlling the radio tower now and when talking about it she says it as if the Others were stopping her getting into the Radio Tower but does it mean that she knows about the Looking Glass has she seen Others coming and going to the Looking Glass, Sayid finds her by getting caught in one of her traps that he stumbled across by following the cable that we now know leads to the Looking Glass so had Danielle put the traps there to catch Others using the Looking Glass ?


Is there more to the music box than meets the eyes is there more to it than it was a present from her love.


I think now Danielle and Alex have been reunited its time we had some answers to Danielle especially as I feel whatever it is that her flashback will reveal can’t be that important that they need to hold on until the end of Lost so the time must be now (well during S4 sometime but sooner rather than later)

Yes I think we definately need a Danielle flashback! It would actually be quite a good S4 opener to have her on-island flashback, where her team lands on the island - either on purporse or by accident - and we see what really happens with the 'sickness' and just what became of Alex and her team.

On one hand I don't think that Dani really is working with the Other, but on the other I just find it very hard to believe that she'd spent 16 years on the island without even coming across the sonic fence or searching every square metre for her stolen child...it just seems far fetched that she wouldn't, so maybe she couldn't. Maybe she did strike a deal with the Others, with Ben telling Dani that he'd take Alex into care because otherwise she'd become infected with the sickness, and that when the danger had passed he'd release her, but he never did. Maybe he told Dani that she was naturally immune but couldn't come with the Others because otherwise she'd spread the sickness, so by means of a combination of fear for her daughter and from threats and subtle manipulation from Ben she remained where she was in the jungle. And then as the years went by Ben kept telling her that she'd see Alex soon but she never did, and eventually she became almost institutionalised by her surroundings, and didn't feel safe exploring the rest of the island.

Personally I still think that 'the sickness' is a drug given to someone that makes them think other people have been infected, while also altering their reality for a brief while resulting in them becoming paranoid that other things - such as other people they see - are a threat to their lives. Of course the sickness could be a real air-bourne virus, but I just don't think so at the moment.

I think a flashback would be good to explain why her team were on the Island as its possible that her team may have been connected to the people who are going to be coming to the Island to 'rescue' the losties in s4. Maybe Danielles team were an earlier attempt to find the Island as they knew that they were going to be going to a hostile place as they were carrying weapons. Or perhaps Danielles team were sent by Dharma to investigate what happenned after the purge but im not sure if the timing fits.

But the timeline doesn't fit. The purge happened 12 years ago (around 1992). Danielle had been on the island for 16 years (since 1988). That means that she arrived when Dharma was still on the island.

Hehehe I bet you disappointed when you saw that there's not gonna be D out of Danielle in S4! I think they'll reveal us her story in season 5! I can't wait to see the real truth about her. What was her team doing there. And I also asked myself the same question EC - where is her ship???
