The Great EQUALISER..or is she?

I, like many of us, have often considered Rousseau as being somewhat of an asset to the Loesties - that is, when she hangs around long enough. I mean, she knows the jungle like the back of her foot, she's got guns..and ammo, she can detect BS (thats Black Smoke ) at 50 paces, she knows abit about the islands history etc etc. So in many respects she is the great equaliser..the potential juggernought that could tip the balance in the Losites favour..

Or is she..?

I mean, she is very allusive and very vague..could this unbigiouty infact cost the losties dear? Take Sayid, Locke and Monica for instance..she let them march into the Flame without so much as a smidgen of advice (nice friend, huh), she didnt even come running in when the gun shots rang out and she was more than open to the idea that Locke and Monica had died.

Some may she she's a realist..others may call her a cynic, hardened by the reality of jungle warfare, personally i think she is also in denial..or crazy.

But whatever..my point is this: Now that Colonel Sayid and co are marching to the barracks, could Rousseau prove to be an asst or a hinderence..i mean in some respects she's adopted the "every woman for herself" mantra, coz all she's going for is her (supposed) daughter isnt she. I mean, i just cant see the Others giving Alex over like that..so theres either gonna be bloodshed or Danni will bail, leaving Jarrah, Locke and Kate to face the consequences..and whose to say the Losties and the Others dont have a common enemy - perhaps Rousseau herself is both an enemy of the State (the Others) and of the Losties..

I'd say she's both, equally, but she certainly can't be relied upon: she shoots pretty much as soon as she hears something unfamiliar and though I think she's generally good natured in a very quirky sense (remember her helping Claire escape), she's also undeniably pretty deranged and driven by her own obsessions, and that causes her to become blind to other people's needs (remember her stealing Claire's baby and, as you mentioned above, not running to help the Losties when she heard the gunshots). She's pretty much out for number one really... but if she's in the right mood, she could be useful. There's just no predicting when she'll be in the right mood.

i voted "she might be useful" because she has helped the losties, i mean she caught Ben for them, she's helped Claire and she obviously knows more about the island than the losties because she's been there for so much longer so i think she is useful when it comes to hiking through the jungle plus she's got a reason to help them find the others.

I really like Dani, however I don't think she has any need for Kate, Locke and Sayid except they are gonna lead her to her daughter.

Good thread. Reading your post KoR got me thinking. What was different between the Staff (ML) and the Flame (E77)? During the former she was all for exploring the 'creepy' Staff (which turned out empty) yet she seemed terrified of going into the Flame..

It's things like these that make me wonder of her agenda (and how much she really knows)

Split personalities? Maybe she was brainwashed and has 2 different memory fragment-pasts? or maybe she's an other?

I hope she's genuine - I've loved her 'Dan/Alex' storyline, though I don't really want the "Mum!" - "Aleeeex" reunion

Interesting to suggest that Dani is possibly the 3rd (I think) more hostile group. Never thought of it like that. But if she is 'original' hostile, why does she have a French/Yugoslavian accent? (less they all do!)

I think she could be useful, afterall, she did want Sayid to kill Mikhail. Not killing him makes him a danger to the losties. But I think, even although he is a danger, they should keep him, for info ect plus, the fact he asked Sayid to kill him.

But Danielle wants to get Alex back, and she can't just go into the other's camp all alone and expect to succeed, so for that reason, I think she will stick with the losties. And she is really fast at making traps, that could come in handy :P

But after reading EPU's post, she seems suspicious, even more than before, but I think she is genuinley against the others, or she wouldn't have helped save Claire - but I think she knows more than is letting on.

Yes, she is certainly a bit of a loose cannon isnt she. I wouldnt want my life to depend upon her actions..or reactions! I hope Locke will be ok!

Yes, very good point! Why WAS she so against going into the Flame!? This certainly seems to point to her knowing more than she's letting on..or perhaps she was 'got to' between the Staff exploration and now..is someone leaning on her..applying the pressure? Has Roussy been......'comprimised'

Eitherway, i certainly detected a momentary flinch of recognition between her and Mikhail..it was ever so fleeting but it was there (imo). I wouldnt be suprised if she was a Dharma Freak..equally i wouldnt be suprised if she was an Other (unless they are both on and the same).

She is certainly in a powerful position and I wonder..did she not want to get her hands dirty in the Flame business because she knew that any breach by a 'hostile' (an outside) would result in the game moving to the next stage and the facility being detonated..either by a wonderfully obsessive Locke :P or a crafty Mikhail..or Klugh for that matter.

Hmm..the more i think about it, the more i see Roussy as she of self preservation
