Rousseau poking her nose in again!?

When 'Team Jack' was at the tube structure where all of the Pearl diary entries came out, they saw the black smoke signal that Sayid said he would make in preparation for an Others ambush.

But it's very unlikely that it was Sayid because we see Sayid safetly tucked up on the boat with Sun and Jin when the electro-storm hit, rather than being on the beach or in the brush, waiting for his friends to arrive.

So...could it be that yet again Rousseau has involved herself in lostie issues?

If so, why?

Maybe the story that Claire told her about the girl with blue eyes who helped her escape the clutches of Ethan provoked a new resolve in Rousseau..perhaps she has made her own plans to get Alex back and perhaps the black smoke signal is her way of distracting the others or something?

I know, thats a kinda weak theory..but it's an aspect that im trying to glean some clarity on, because this is the 2nd time that we have seen some random black smoke signal in a finale. Last time we didnt even find out for sure if was actually Rousseau who lit it (or did we?). So what does this 2nd installment tell us? Could it be that it wasnt even Rousseau who lit it?

It may just have been the others themselves that did it, after all they must have known Sayid had discovered their fake camp by this point and Sawyer had shot one of them so allowing Michael to lead them there with another angry revenge seeking lunatic on the loose would make things more difficult so instead they set off the smoke in the opposite direction to where their camp was knowing Jack would go ballistic and leave the group vunerable during this distraction (Fenry's been around him long enough to figure out his reaction if he felt Michael had swerved him again, mind you two minutes would have been enough to figure that out).

I'm not entirely sure why everyone thinks someone other Sayid set the fire - I know we saw him on the yacht, but he had been on land, checking out the camp, so I don't see why he couldn't have set the fire and then returned to the boat. I thought the big mystery about the fire was that it was in the wrong place, meaning Michael had not taken them to the promised place.

Thats the question - was the fire in the wrong place or did Michael just have no idea where he was going? Its unlikely Michael would purposefully lead them to the wrong place since then he would have failed his mission and he (allegedly) would never see Walt again so that can be ruled out. If Sayid did set the fire why did he start it somewhere far from the camp? Theres also the thing that we dont see Sayid at all between discovering the camp was fake and the release of the electromagnetic charge.

Also Sayid didnt even stick to his plan, he said he would start the signal and wait then attack the others camp. Instead he went in alone, found it wasnt actually real and kind of ruined any plan he might have had so setting the signal would be pointless since he had not discovered the others REAL camp. He may have set the signal or he may not, I think the writers did this intentionally.

I think it's odd Sayid just got on his boat and sodded off after discovering the fake camp. I would have thought he'd go on a brief search for Jack etc......

Maybe it was the others..though it seems alot of effort to go to in order to distract Jack for a millisecond. I mean, if that was the smokes signals sole purpose then what a waste of firewood ..because they had those electro-darts..they didnt need the smoke signal really.

Maybe it's too simplistic a view but, like Murg, I don't see why it's not feasible that Sayid lit the signal. I know we saw him back on the boat but in the time the others have tranquillised the Losties and transported them back to the coast Sayid could well have gone back to the yacht after waiting in vain for quite some time.

I don't think Michael was ever to take Jack et all to the fake camp Sayid found. When the Losties saw the smoke signal Jack turned on Michael and Michael started whining 'I'm sorry, they said I'd never see Walt again!' This led me to think Michael had been given a different location to take them to and obviously when he realised Jack was onto him, Michael was happy to let Jack continue to believe he was going to the camp that Sayid was at.

And Roco, I may be way off the mark here but I think Mantis started to call Henry, Fenry, as an abbreviation of 'Fake' Henry in the wake of Sayid, Ana and Charlie finding out that he wasn't the real Henry Gale after all.

Hmm, good point. So why did Sayid do this..why didnt he start the signal first? Also even once he discovered that the camp was 'apparently' fake..then why not still start the signal as afterall his buddies were relying on that.

Hmm, i get the feeling that Mike was leading them to the beach as he promised. Afterall Mike isnt the best tracker/trecker..he probably just got lost..hence the Others sending out spies to ensure that he was heading in the correct direction? Though perhaps youre right..it's difficult to tell..

On topic: I think ayid lit the fire to fake camp but when they never arrived went back to the boat as he must have suspected Michael was lying about the position of the others.
