This is the first time I have ever let anyone read things that I have written other than my best friend. Try not to be too hard on me, but constructive criticism is appreciated. I hope you like it. More chapters will hopefully follow soon. Enjoy!
Cassidys Story - Chapter 1 The room was dark considering it was only eight o’clock at night. A storm threatened its way across the sky swallowing up what bit of sunlight had been left in the day. Without any air conditioning, the room was hot and with the approaching rain, it was quickly becoming muggy. Cassidy layed on the bed watching the ceiling fan do its best to circulate the stale air that permeated the room. She wondered to herself how the little girl she once was had become the woman she is today. Suddenly an enormous clap of thunder shook the skies causing her to jump in fright. She giggled out loud, realizing that thankfully, that little girl was still somewhere within her. If only she could let her out more often. It was quickly getting hotter and the sheets were more than uncomfortable against her sunburned skin. “Ouch,” she said aloud to herself as her finger touched her red shoulder. She wasn’t one to burn easily, but she was from the north and apparently her skin wasn’t quite use to southern sun just yet. She slipped out of bed deciding that a nice cold shower would cool her off and clear her head. The only light in the room was filtering through the small opening in the drapes. Cassidy could see the green vacancy sign blinking on the hotel marquee through the opening. While she stared at the sign, the light suddenly turned red and flashed no vacancy. She quickly walked to the window and peeked out at the parking lot in front of her. She had been at this motel for a week now and knew (at least from a distance) all of its occupants. It was a small motel, boasting only 10 rooms and one had been empty since she had arrived. She looked around the parking lot trying to find the vehicle the newcomer may have arrived in. It was tough to see through the rain and she found herself wishing for the lightning to come more frequently so she could see better. The parking lot was small and she finally spotted the new visitors car. “Red”, she realized as a bolt of lightning lit up the night sky. A red Honda with a sunroof. Her shoulders sagged with relief with the knowledge that she was probably still safe here for another night. If someone was following her, they surely wouldn’t do it in such a noticeable vehicle. She pulled the drapes completely closed and walked to the door of her room. She wanted to check the lock and deadbolt on the door one more time. Better safe than sorry. Her fears were put to rest upon finding that everything was locked, just as it had been the last three times she had checked. She walked to the bathroom and reached in to turn on the dim light that hung above the bathroom mirror. It wasn’t much of a bathroom, but it was clean and The Hilton was not an option. She undressed and climbed into the cold shower feeling instant relief as the water caressed her hot skin. She leaned her head back and began to wash her blond hair allowing the water to wash away some of her stress, nervousness, and fear. Although her tension was dissipating, her mind kept coming back to the very thing that had brought her to this town and motel to begin with. She tried to squelch all of her worries and enjoy her shower. She needed to get some sleep tonight so that she could get back to the task at hand tomorrow. Feeling better after her shower, Cassidy was finally beginning to get sleepy. She lay in the darkened room wondering if what that woman had told her could possibly be true. Why did she believe her enough to get into her car and travel half way across country? There was an urgency in the woman’s voice that Cassidy could not just toss aside. She rolled onto her side and closed her eyes. Tomorrow night she would leave this motel and be one step closer to finally meeting this mystery lady who insisted that they meet in person to discuss the issue further. The phones may not be safe, she warned. Cassidy finally began to fall asleep although it would be a restless sleep. Persistent dreams of Sawyer throughout the night would have her tossing and turning one more night.

Here is Chapter 2 of Cassidys Story. I have no idea where I am going with this and am pretty much writing as I go along so I apologize for any discrepancies within the story. As always, feedback is welcome. Thanks for reading!
![]() Chapter 2 Cassidy awoke the next morning feeling rather sluggish. She had tossed and turned throughout the night trying to get comfortable. Between the sunburn and the dreams, which were more like nightmares, she figured she had gotten about 5 decent hours of sleep. Always the optimist, she thought to herself that at least five hours was better than none. As she sat up and stretched, her shoulders, neck and back popped and cracked as if they had come apart during her fitful sleep and were now reconnecting with each other. She glanced at the clock on the nightstand which read seven o’clock and decided she would head to the office where the motel owner served coffee and doughnuts. She wasn’t one for sweets first thing in the morning, but a cup of coffee was something that she just hated to be without. She decided the shower from last night would suffice and settled for running a brush through her hair and brushing her teeth. She dressed in her usual attire which was a pair of jeans and added a black tank top and flip flops. She debated calling home really fast but decided she needed a cup of coffee first and maybe a cigarette. She was trying to quit, but with everything that was happening in her life right now, it hasn’t been all that easy. Cassidy walked the corridor of the Swan Motel toward the tiny front office. It was a process she had repeated for the last 6 days now and knew from the woman on the phones instructions, that it would be the last day she would have coffee here. Cassidy entered the main office which consisted of the front desk, a soda machine, a very out of style couch, two uncomfortable looking chairs and an assortment of tables with maps strewn about them. The smell of the coffee immediately tingled her senses. She approached the front desk expecting to see the desk clerk somewhere behind it, but he was no where in sight. From the looks of the full coffee maker, she was the first guest of the morning to get a cup. It was more than fine with her that nobody else was in the office for she hated talking first thing in the morning and preferred to have her coffee in private. She poured herself a cup and grabbed a copy of the days paper off of the front desk and headed outside for some fresh air. It was a beautiful day and the sky was a perfect shade of blue without a cloud in sight. Last nights storm had vanished well before dawn, leaving no trace that they had ever occurred. Albequerque was especially hot in July, she thought to herself as she took a seat at a picnic table which was partially shaded by a big tree of some sort. She tried to keep her mind on reading the paper but thoughts of the strange woman kept coming back. The woman sounded fairly young and claimed to be one of the Oceanic 6. The father of Cassidys child had been on that plane, but was killed when it crashed into the ocean. They were not together in any sense of the word at the time and had in fact had a falling out a few years before the crash. Sawyer had never even met his daugher Clementine because he never wanted to. Cassidy knew that only two women made up The Oceanic Six and surmised by the voice that the woman who called her had to be the one named Kate Austen. The only thing Kate had said to Cassidy on the phone was that she was one of the Oceanic Six and that “he” wanted her to know that he loved her and Clementine and had taken care of them. She was to drive to Albequerque, New Mexico and check into the Swam Motel and wait there for further instructions. Now, here she sat outside of a dingy motel for six days, reading, walking, jogging, and waiting. Waiting for an unknown woman to call to give her information about a man she put in prison for conning her out of her money. She was remembering when she visited Sawyer in prison and tried to tell him that he had a baby girl named Clemetine. He vehemently denied having a kid, as he called it. Yelling at her, “I aint got no kid, you hear me? I aint got no kid!”. As much as she hated him, deep down she also loved him; although she hated herself for it. He was a con man and she fell in love with him even after he had tried to con her out of her money. She began to pull cons with him and loved every minute of it and him. She was positive he had felt the same way and even though he did manage to con her in the end, she still always felt that he really loved her. Until the day she went to that prison. That was when her heart broke. Denying her was one thing, but to deny your very own flesh and blood was another. The day she left that prison she put Sawyer and her criminal past behind her. She had raised Clemetine alone for the past 5 years, had a decent job and a very good life back in Ohio. Why, she wondered to herself would she risk all of that because of a strangers call? The question was more or less rhetorical for she already knew the answer. The woman said he had taken care of them. Could that mean that he had left them some money somewhere? Her job was fine and all, but they did live day to day and they really could use the money. She also loved Sawyer and was grief stricken when Flight 815 crashed and was later found in the ocean. She also wanted to know how the woman could know this is Sawyer had died in the crash. Had she spoken to him on the plane? She hadn’t expected to be here at the motel for this long and had every intention of leaving three days ago when the phone finally rang. The woman claimed to be having trouble getting to the motel and could she please wait three more days. Cassidy had said yes. Today was the day the woman was to arrive and Cassidy would not wait anymore if she didn’t show. She took a sip of her coffee and finally broke down and lit a cigarette when she heard a mans voice behind her say, “Cassidy?”.
