Season Four
Episode One
“Somewhere Over the Rainbow”

LOCKE is hiding beneath a tree. His hands are over his head, and he is breathing quietly. We hear another person running somewhere near him and he hides beneath the tree more.

MAN
Get out.

The man pulls LOCKE by his arm and drags him out into the light. The man who dragged him out is wearing a camouflage jacket and is muscular. He has a crew cut and an M16 in his arm.
LOCKE swings his fist at the man, but the man dodges it and jabs his gun into LOCKE’S chest.

LOCKE
You don’t know what you’re doing!

MAN
I’m under the orders of Mr. Widmore, sir. You must come with me, or I’ll be forced to take action.

LOCKE
You don’t know what you’re doing!

He attempts to run from the man, who cocks his gun.

LOCKE
I can’t go with you! You don’t understand!

He jumps onto the man and steals his gun, shooting the man’s heart multiple times.
After this, he runs away, albeit quietly.

(END OF FLASHFORWARD)

(LOST Inter-title)

JACK is talking to MINKOWSKI on NAOMI’S phone.

JACK
How long will it take for the freighter to get to the island?

MINKOWSKI
Don’t know. We’re sending a small boat of five over there. Should be there around 3.

JACK
Okay, good.

JACK hangs up and walks over to BEN.

JACK
What do you think now, Ben?
BEN
I think you’re a fool, Jack.

JACK smiles and walks away to ROUSSEAU, who is with ALEX and KARL.

JACK
Danielle, I need you to bring everybody back to the beach. I have to go somewhere. If anybody comes to the beach in a boat, and I’m not there, I want you to tell them to wait, okay?

ROUSSEAU nods.

LOCKE, hiding behind the radio tower, stealthily walks up to BEN, who is still tied up. He pulls out a knife and starts cutting at the rope.

BEN (whispering)
John, what are you doing?

LOCKE
Getting you out of here.

BEN
John, I can’t leave yet.

He puts his hands in his pockets and pulls out a folded piece of paper.

BEN
John, this is a map to the Temple. I want you to bring all of my people in there back to the beach. If you want to get rid of these people, that is what you must do.

BEN sees JACK turning around.

BEN (yelling)
John, go!

LOCKE runs away quickly, and JACK looks around. JACK runs to BEN.

JACK
Ben, what did you say?

BEN
Nothing, Jack. You should still be able to catch him.

JACK runs past the radio tower and into the jungle. He gets into a paddock and looks around. LOCKE walks into the paddock holding a gun and the map to the temple in his other hand.

*FLASHFORWARD*

LOCKE runs into a stone building with the gun he stole from the soldier in his arms. He searches his pockets for a key and finds one, running up to the door of the building. He puts the key in the lock and the door opens.
The interior of the temple is complete stone, most of which has been weathered. A man runs up to him and tackles him. Upon seeing it is LOCKE, he gets off.

LOCKE
Damn it, Sabotine!

SABOTINE (the man)
I’m sorry, Locke. I had to make sure it was you.

LOCKE
Where is everyone?

SABOTINE
Most everyone is in the lobby. Karl and Richard were... taken earlier today.

LOCKE
What?

LOCKE runs away from him, down several hallways and stairs, until he reaches a large room filled with about thirty people.

LOCKE
Where’s Karl and Richard?

A few people mumble. A young man runs up to LOCKE.

MAN (English accent)
Um, Locke, sir... Today, we went to the Orchid to get some C4... to blow up Widmore’s mine, you know, and... Karl and Richard were taken on the way back.

*END OF FLASHFORWARD*

MIKHAIL crawls out of the water and onto the shore. He immediately pulls off his SCUBA gear and feels his chest for the harpoon shot. There is nothing there. He lies down for a bit, yet opens his eye when he hears a yelling noise.
DESMOND is swimming up to the surface and yelling for MIKHAIL. MIKHAIL hides in the jungle not far away. DESMOND gets to the shore.

DESMOND
Where are you? Where the hell are you?

MIKHAIL runs to DESMOND and tackles him. He punches him in the face, then elbows him over the head, knocking him out.
He then runs in the jungle.

LOCKE is holding a gun to JACK.

LOCKE
Jack, I’m not going to kill you.

JACK
Like you killed Naomi?

LOCKE
I had to, Jack. You don’t know what she’s bringing onto this island.

JACK
Neither do you.

LOCKE
Jack, anybody coming to this island can bring nothing but trouble.

JACK
You’re wrong, Locke. They’re here to rescue us.

LOCKE
No, they aren’t! Why would they just happen to be waiting outside the island?

JACK
They were searching for Desmond.

LOCKE
That was a lie! Who would be searching for him?

JACK
Somebody, I don’t know! Somebody he can trust. Somebody we can trust more than you.

LOCKE
Jack, you don’t understand... Making that call was the worst thing you could have done.

LOCKE shoots JACK in the shoulder and runs over to him, knocking him out.

ROUSSEAU is leading the survivors through the jungle. KARL and SAYID are holding NAOMI’S body on a stretcher. Static comes through on the phone, which SAYID is holding.

SAYID
Danielle! Hold Naomi.

ROUSSEAU goes to hold Naomi while SAYID talks on the phone.

PHONE VOICE (woman)
Hello? Shepard?

SAYID
No, I’m Sayid Jarrah.

VOICE
Are you on the island?

SAYID
Yes.

VOICE
Okay... There were some delays. We will be there around seven.

SAYID hangs up.

*FLASHFORWARD*
LOCKE is putting on body armor. He equips himself with a gun, and looks at the man who he was previously talking to.

LOCKE
Grayson, get a group of five to come with me.

GRAYSON nods and goes through a couple hallways.

LOCKE, SABOTINE, and four others are hiding in the jungle, each equipped with a gun.

LOCKE (Whispering)
Sabotine, I’m going to need you to wait here.

SABOTINE
Why?

LOCKE
We’re about a hundred yards from the mining compound. Stay here, and wait for 1200 seconds. After that, run to the compound, but try to be quiet.

SABOTINE nods.
LOCKE and the others stealthily walk through the jungle. They come upon a fenced compound highly protected by soldiers. LOCKE cocks his gun and shoots one of the soldiers. Another soldier standing by him immediately goes to the other. LOCKE shoots this soldier as well.
The group goes to the fence and climbs over it. LOCKE goes over to the compound door and knocks. The door lifts mechanically, and LOCKE sees a soldier coming to the door. LOCKE knocks him out. He goes to one of the men in his group.

LOCKE
There’s a fork in the hallway not far. Put on his uniform and go on the left side.

The man nods and puts on the soldier’s uniform. He then runs to the hallway and goes left. LOCKE takes the rest of the group to the fork on the right side.

*END OF FLASHFORWARD*

It is night. JACK wakes up. LOCKE is standing over him.

LOCKE
Jack, we’re not far from where I plan to go.

JACK
Where is that?

LOCKE
The temple. Home to the others.

JACK
I’m not going there. I’m not going anywhere you plan to take me.

LOCKE
I’m sorry, Jack, but you have to come. If you go out in the jungle... You will die. It’ll get you.

JACK
What? What will get me?

LOCKE
The island. It’s angry, Jack. The temple will be the only place you’re safe in.

JACK (laughing)
This island is just an island, Locke. It can’t get me.

He gets up and starts to walk away.

LOCKE
I’m not going to stop you, Jack. But I don’t want you to die.

JACK (smiling)
You don’t have to worry.

LOCKE
Jack, no! Come to the temple... You don’t understand... What’s out there...

JACK continues to walk. LOCKE runs to him and pushes him down.

LOCKE
You can’t go into the jungle! I’m sorry, Jack.

JACK
You *******! Just let me go!

LOCKE
I won’t. I can’t. Not on my good conscience, Jack. Please, come with me.

JACK
No!

LOCKE
Where else will you go? I promise, Locke, these people won’t hurt you. Not on my word.

JACK
Fine, then.

JACK gets up and LOCKE starts walking.

BEN is being guided by ALEX in the jungle.

BEN
Alex, please. Talk to me.

ALEX is silent.

BEN
Alex, you need to understand. This isn’t what you want. Karl, your mother, me... We’ll all die. You have to go. I can understand if you want to let me go there. But, if you do, you’ll die, along with everyone else here.

ALEX
No. You’re just playing more of your mind games. I can’t listen to you at all.

BEN
Alex, please.

ALEX keeps walking with him tied up.

A boat lands on the beach DESMOND is lying on, still unconscious. A group of people get off the boat, and observe DESMOND.

MAN # 1
Is he alive?

MAN #2
Yeah, I think so. The others are probably on another side of the island.

MAN #1
What if he’s one of them?

MAN #2
What if he isn’t? Let’s bring him with us in case.

DESMOND is put in the boat.

HURLEY is with BERNARD.

HURLEY
Not long now.

HURLEY smiles.

HURLEY
Where do you think Charlie and Desmond are?

BERNARD
I don’t know... They’ll be fine, Hugo.

HURLEY’S smile falters.

*FLASHFORWARD*

LOCKE is advancing forward in a hallway with his gun held high. The two who are still with him follow him. He hears a door near him open. He turns around and sees BEN with a file.

LOCKE
Ben?

BEN looks shocked to see LOCKE.

BEN
John... How pleasant to see you.

LOCKE
What’s in the folder, Ben?

BEN
Nothing of your concern, John. I’d advise you get out of here soon.

LOCKE
It’s fine, Ben. I need to find Richard and Karl.

BEN
And you don’t care who dies in the process?

LOCKE hears two gunshots and sees the two behind him have been shot in the head. A man stands behind them.

LOCKE
Ben, why are you here? On the island? With these people?

BEN
I am here to liberate you, John. You and the other people still here.

LOCKE
You just had two of them killed, Ben. I can’t really believe you want to liberate us.

BEN
Locke, sacrifices must be made. They won’t believe I’m on their side otherwise.

LOCKE
Then why didn’t you have me shot?

MAN BEHIND LOCKE
I’m tempted.

BEN
John, I don’t want you killed, because you’re a key component in my plan.

LOCKE
I’m not a pawn anymore, Ben.

BEN
I can tell. Taking control of the people who were left on here. You’ve really started to lead them well, John.

LOCKE
Ben, you’re just manipulating me again.

LOCKE gets to leave. ANTHONY (The man behind him) puts his gun to LOCKE’S chest.

BEN
I can’t let you go back to the temple if you’re just going to rally them against me. If you remember, John, I used to be their leader. They respect me.

LOCKE
Not anymore. Not after you left them here. And, now, they’ll hate you even more.

BEN
John, you know you aren’t going to leave here soon.

LOCKE
I’m not going to leave here without Karl and Richard.

BEN
John, two people have already died in your trek. Are the other two worth it?

LOCKE
How’d you --?

BEN
I’ve converted others, John. Your friend Sabotine in the jungle was kidnapped about two minutes before this meeting. Your other friend Loki is being interrogated as we speak.

LOCKE looks at him emotionally.

LOCKE
Ben, please... You want to save this island as much as I do...

BEN
I’m sorry, John. But you know I can’t let you leave.

ANTHONY knocks LOCKE out.

*END OF FLASHFORWARD*

LOCKE and JACK are at the door to the temple. There is a peep-hole about 3/4 above the ground. The two walk to it. They hear scuffling by the door, and it eventually opens to RICHARD ALPERT.

ALPERT
John... Come in.

LOCKE goes into the temple with JACK following him. However, upon entering, he collapses and starts shaking.

LOCKE
Jack!

ALPERT
John, he can’t come in.

ALPERT pushes him away and he stops shaking, but is unconscious.

LOCKE is with ALPERT and is walking down a stone hallway.

ALPERT
Ben gave you orders?

LOCKE
Yeah... Terrible people are coming. We need to work together to stop them.

ALPERT
Why didn’t you come back to the camp?

LOCKE
Ben... He shot me.

ALPERT
Why are we listening to him then?

LOCKE
Because the people who are coming should be a common enemy for all of us, past aside.

They come to a lobby, filled with Others.

LOCKE (to them)
Hello.

They stop muttering.

LOCKE
Yes... My friends... People are on their way here. We need to stop them. They are keeping Ben hostage. We can only stop them together.

Most of them nod.

LOCKE
Also, there’s a man outside. I need two of you to bring him to the Barracks and leave the sonic fence on. Who’ll do it?

A man and a woman stand up.

LOCKE
Good. Come to the beach when you’re done.

ROUSSEAU and the rest of the survivors come to the beach. The boat is not far and it soon reaches the beach. Four people get off, with one standing in front of them.

MAN
Hello. My name is Guido Sabotine. This is Isaac Grayson, and this is Elizabeth Grace. We’re here to bring you back home.
