Beyond the Horizon.

Well it was either Rousseau or Karl punching Ben and I had Rousseau on lookout duty. Not much happens in 3 and 4 concerning Kate I'm afraid. I had to rewrite both of them because of PC problems. But in Chapter 5, which is uop next we find out more about it.

CHAPTER 5: BEHIND ENEMY LINES

The Oceanic survivours were understandably uneasy with this new arrangement - to go to the Other's encampment, or barracks as it was known. Sayid was leading them and was perhaps the most troubled by the turn of events; he'd been to the Other's homes before and all he'd got on arrival was a night handcuffed to a swingset and, a day later, a gas attack. And that was after climbing over a supersonic fence which surrounded their new destination.
If that was not bad enough, all their lives were now firmly held in the grasp of their enemy. Once they arrived they'd have make a decision once and for all. Unite or die, at least temporarily. Live together, die alone, thought Sayid grimly. Somehow he doubted the Others would want to form an alliance; their dead comrades, as well as their battered hostage leader and the rogue Juliet would do little to help matters. He'd reluctantly allowed Ben to walk freely, without his hands tied, for this trip but he was still being closely watched.
"Do you think they'll be alright?" A voice pulled Sayid from his thoughts. Sun. She was watching him anxiously.
"They be okay, they are all accomplished marksmen. Jin would not have stayed behind if he thought he'd be in extreme danger." Sayid said, choosing his words with care, not wanting to give the pregnant women a cause for fear or false hope - she had already been made nervous by Ben's comment about pregnant women dying. He didn't mentioned he was still unsure about whether to trust Locke or not.
He noticed much of the group was watching him and realised with a jolt they were looking to him as a leader. With Jack dead, Locke and Sawyer both behind defending them on what seemed to him a suicide mission, and Kate still in desperate need of surgery he was their last leadership figure. Now he realised why Jack didn't want the responsiblity.
"Pressure getting to you?" Said Juliet.
"I'm more concerned with what will happen when we reach your old camp. I don't think we'll get a very warm welcome." Said Sayid sardonically.
"If it makes you feel better they'll not be very pleased to see me either." She said with a sad smile.
"Oh no, I think they'll welcome you with open arms." Smirked Ben, approaching from behind.
"I thought I told you to stay quiet until we arrived." Said Sayid.
"You did. But I didn't agree to it." Ben smiled.
"We'll have plently to argue about when we arrive, how about you both stay quiet for now and help me with Kate?" Asked Juliet, when she saw Sayid getting ready to argue with Ben.
The two men looked down at Kate, who was being unsteadily carried between Hurley and Steve. Hurley looked as though he would pass out because of the blood - Juliet was strongly reminded of Tom. Claire was nearby carrying Aaron and talking to Sun, both kept throwing worried glances at Kate - the gunshot wound was getting worse.
The deja vu hit Sayid strongly - Kate's wound now bore a distinct resembelence to that of the air marshall who had had a peice of fuselage stuck in his side. The wound had become strongly infected and the man had eventually been killed as an act of kindness. Sayid hoped they would not have to do the same here. Juliet was mentally cursing herself for not performing the operation sooner; Kate was already delerious and her chances of survival were lessening with each hour she went untreated.
Together Ben and Sayid took Kate from Steve and Hurley (both looked releived by this) and began to carry her in the direction Alex and Karl were leading everyone.
"We should reach the fence in about 5 minutes." Called Alex.
Sayid felt a strong sense of foreboding, for themselves and their friends left behind. Was this whole idea suicide?
"It's too late to go back now." Said Juliet, moving forward to help him and Ben carry Kate. "At least we can treat her when we get there."
"If your people let us." Said Sayid.
"We may not be your best friends Sayid, but I can assure you, me and my people will not stand by and watch while someone is dying." Said Ben from a few feet away, carrying Kate's feet. "Which is more than I could once have said for some people." He added bitterly. Juliet glared at him.
" We're here." Called Karl a few minutes later.
Pushing through the trees as he and Ben carried Kate between them, Sayid came upon the familiar site of the sonic fence. A few of the people around him gasped at this site. Wait until you see their houses, thought Sayid.
Juliet ran forward and pulles Sun backwards - she had nearly walked through two of the beams.
"We need to turn off the fence first." She said in explanation.
This statement was greeted by much confusion but Juliet didn't bother to explain it. She and Alex walked forward to a small pad with a set of numbers and entered a code, causing the green light to turn red. They hurried everyone though the gap before turning the fence back on.
"Come on, we have to face them sooner or later." Said Juliet.
It turned out to be sooner. The large group were not more than halfay to the clearing full of the Other's houses when whispers began, the noise kept going until a man appeared. Richard looked at the group with an expression of confusion, anger and contempt. Then he looked straight at Ben, veiwing his battered and bloody face with shock. "Ben, what's going on?"

Okay, I've had to edit my chapters again my computer is continuing to crash alot, but i should have the next chapter up tomorrow.

I liked how you've interpreted all of the characters mannerisms - it brings them to life more and that's a good thing.

I also like the level of conflict and mistrust that exists..it adds to the level of tension and excitement, allowing me to breeze through the chapter with easy

I'm a bit behind, but that was my fave chapter so far!

CHAPTER 6: DEFEND OR DIE

Desmond was restless. He and Jin were now alone in the eerie silence of the caves. He knew this place had once been home to his friends but to him it signified danger. Jin was silent now, a short distance away scouting out possible areas which thier attackers were most likely to come from. A lovely way to past the time until they fought for their lives, thought Desmond. They had agreed to wait in the caves for an hour and then follow the majority of the group to the Others homes. Sayid had provided them with a map of the island which showed which way they should go, Desmond hadn't bothered to ask where he'd found it. He had enough mysteries to deal with. Namely the fact that a woman who was with the boat people - who he was now waiting for to attack! - had a photo of himself and Penny. Where had she got that photo? He knew that Penny wasn't with that bnoat so how did they get the picture. Probably from Mr Widmore, he answered himself. But why?He forced his mind away from the thought and the millions of questions that would inevitably follow and dragged his brain back to the current day and matter at hand.
The caves were eeriely quiet. Jin had only said a few words in broken English about the best ways to defend the caves, and Desmond had heard Jin speaking to himself about Sun when he'd thought Desmond wouldn't hear him. Locke, Danielle and Sawyer had taken off on a trek probably more dangerous than his own; Desmond was already doubting whether he'd ever see them again - and the fact he's heard Sawyer shouting that Locke's plan (whatever it was) was stupid was less than encouraging. He had mixed feelings about Locke. He'd heard that Locke had killed the woman - Naomi - up by the radio tower, that he'd somehow known she was a traitor. So that should give him a reason to trust the man, yet how had he known? Desmond's thoughts pulled in another direction again - Charlie. Claire was now distraught and Desmond was feeling guilty. The man had died thinking his death would mean everyone else would get rescued. Desmond had seen resue in the starnge flashes he'd been experiencing since the hatch had imploded, yet this one hadn't happened. Charlie was dead and instead of rescue they were facing near certain death. Desmond shook himself mentally and fought to concentrate. His army experience had taught him to stay focussed, but since when did the army live on an island full of hatches and polar bears with a magic button to save the world? Granted the hatch was gone now - also courtesy of Locke - but that wasn't the point really.
Glancing at Jin, Desmond saw the man was starting to relax, clearly thinking that they may be out of danger; maybe the people from the boat were gone? Desmond doubted it. He got the feeling that they were being lulled into a false sense of security. As he watched, Desmond saw his silent partner suddenly tense up. His faced, relaxed just seconds sooner, was now alert and watchful. Desmond wondered what had changed; he'd heard nothing. Jin montioned Desmond to stay quiet and quickly runs over to him. Desmond shrugged his shoulders to show his confusion. Jin stayed silent for a few seconds, clearly trying to find the right word.
"Boat." Said Jin, looking at Desmond to make sure he understood the message.
"How close?" Asked Desmond. Jin looked blank. "Um, where were they?" He asked slowly, hoping Jin understood him. They couldn't afford to waste time.
In reply Jin pulled out his gun and took of the safety. At the same time he put a finger to his lips to tell Desmond to stay quiet. "Attack quick." He whispered. "Then run there." He pointed to a sucluded spot hidden just outside of the caves.
Desmond looked at Jin in shock. Was he serious? They'd be killed. Desmond opened his mouth to reply but Jin was already moving forwards - right into the path of danger. Mentally cursing the man, Desmond pulled out his own gun, checked the chamber was full and began to follow Jin, trying to make as little sound as possible; it was difficult with the rocky floor. While Desmond was struggling to go quietly Jin was walking in a crouch; gun poised and silent as a jungle cat hunting it's prey. Desmond got the feeling Jin had experience in this type of thing but knew now was not the time to swap life stories.
Jin stopped so suddenly Desmond nearly fell into him. He turned and faced Desmond, once again motioning for silence, before indicating for Desmond to listen. Voices. There were at least 2 people very nearby. Sadly they didn't have a chance to listen in on the enemy; the shadows of their enemy appeared on the wall of the cave. Fighting a mounting fear at the sheer stupidty of what he was doing, Desmond copied Jin by pointing his gun at the cave opening, waiting for the shadow to be swallowed up by the appearence of it's owner. Before Desmond realised what was happening three men appeared in the opening, Jin reacted quickly, firing two shots and then pulled Desmond into the shadows without before they could be spotted.
In that same breath Desmond and Jin found themselves looking down the barrel of a shotgun held by a young woman with dark hair. Behind her, half hidden in darkness stood an angry looking man with a handgun also pointed at them. By the time Desmond and Jin had registered this unexpected turn of events three man - the one's Jin had shot at - had appeared scowling at the woman's side. In contrast to the men's expression, the young woman was looking at them with clear amusement.
"Now what kind of welcome is that?"

"The Horizon" - best episode yet. Intense yet dripping with the sarcastic nods to the characters we know so well. You've merged the 'two worlds' together brilliantly, creating new characters who tantelise and tease the imagination, and rebirting living characters with extended adventures. Loving the cliff-hanger too.
