I dont think Desmond even had that vision i think he made it up to talk charlie into going down to the looking Glass becuase he saw that vision but knew Charlie wouldnt go unless he had a real insentive.

Anyway I think Claire is alive but i think she was drugged or something you wouldnt be that mellow and chilled out if you saw your Dad on the mad island you crashed on and were seperated from your baby.
Maybe Miles was interested in Claire becuase she was quite a spirital person and was interested in Astrology so maybe they had some sort of Connection

Or maybe he can sense when somebody is about to die and maybe she is dead after all
