It's not Alex's existence I have a problem with - if she was conceived off the island as Rousseau said she was, that explains why she was born without complications. It's the fact that Juliet seems to have selectively edited her birth from the island's history ('no baby has ever successfully been born on the island') that troubles me.

Maybe children really can't be born on the island as far as the Others are concerned, no matter where they've been conceived, and when Dani's ship crashed into the island the Others kept watch on her and her team and then to their surprise Dani successfully gave birth, and so they took Alex because she was special and had survived where none had before. And so Ben adopted her and became extra protective of her.

To be fair to Juilet, has far has shes concerned, Alex is Bens kid and so technically was concived on the island - but then it would make it an even wilder inacuracy.

Ben has been led to believe that he was born on the island..infact he's certain or it and proud of his island roots. However, he has/had Cancer, which was a suprise to him more than anyone. Anyway, what if he Cancer is not only to do with the island not 'protecting' him (or whatever) but also to do with the possibility that he wasnt born on the island..hence his vunerability to getting sick as he did Pre-Jack operating on him.

Could this mean that someone lied to him..his mother..his father..Jacob? Jacob brought the rest of the Others to the island..so can we assume that he also brought Ben to the island but hasnt told Ben that he is really a real-worlder?

Yup, we know that now but I posted that before it was revealed that he wasn't born on the island (look at the date of my post)
