Angels and Demons casts female lead
Ayelet Zurer gets the thumbs up!

Post Angels and Demons casts female lead

Ayelet Zurer (pictured, Vantage Point, Munich) has been cast as Tom Hanks' co-star, and female lead to the sorta/kinda sequel to The Da Vinci Code.

Zurer plays the daughter of Leonardo Vetra, a CERN physicist. After the death of her father, Zurer teams up with Robert Langdon (Hanks) to uncover the identity of her father's killer and stop a terrorist plot.

Angels and Demons is ever-so-lightly penciled in for a May 2009' release.

I don't think the Da Vinci Code lent itself to being a movie, and as such I don't think it did the book justice, at all. However I think that Angels and Demons, despite the strong similarity I felt between the books, might be more suited to the big screen seeing as it's more action-oriented. Or maybe I just read it faster, I don't know.

The problem with turning books like the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons into films, is that I felt I got a lot of the enjoyment out of the learning (I couldn't think of a better word, sorry ) and plot revelations, and you just can't fit that into a 2 hour film. It is a bit like trying to fit Season 1 of Lost into a film. You could do it, as the plot isn't that complicated to be fair, but it's so much more than just pure plot.
That said, I felt the Da Vinci Code movie was 'OK'.

If anything, it's the other way round.

Yeah I agree with you pretty much all over the court there Him. And I realize Angels and Demons (the book) was set before The Da Vinci Code, but I wouldn't be surprised if they set the film after the book (I can't really imagine it affecting anything..)

Ewan McGregor has also been cast I'm led to believe... at least that's what BBC news said

They are pretty much completely independent, so yeah, I wouldn't be too surprised either. Obviously I don't want to refer to things as they are at the end of A&D, but all opportunities for continuity were ignored at the beginning of the Da Vinci code, and the events never mentioned. It is quite strange.

Incidentally, I like Tom Hanks, but he's so far off what I imagined Langdon to look like it's not funny.

And that's pretty much how I always imagine(d) him...

I heard Tom Hanks was playing Langdon when I first read Angels and Demons about... a year or 2 ago. So it's always how I've envisioned him.. Probably influenced by that very fact, though...

Awesome! I seriously cannot wait for this, i loved the book and agree that it's more suited to a film imagining than DVC.

A&D was a better book imo than DVC, so I can't wait to see what the film version of it looks like! But there is always that greater risk of dissapointment when one of your favourite books gets adapted for the big screen, but I thought DVC was a pretty decent film (apart from some pretty laughable scenes and plot points that didn't need to be changed), so I'm not too worried for A&D.

I agree with Ki on this A+D was the far superior book, but for some reason DVC gets all the credit. I am looking forward to this very much .

And I dont know why, but I expected them to cast someone better looking than Tom Hanks to play Langdon. That said, I thought he did the role justice (when has Hanks not done a role justice???).
