As there seem to be a lot of Juliet fans on the forum (including me). You might like these Juliet videos.

OK! They have Jack and Ben in them too; but I can't help that! I didn't make them!!

Yah JB! Where have you been? I love Juliet and have mentioned it about 800 times on this forum. Who do you think always helps you save her on the character game? lol

He had slightly more pressing matters, like dealing his with tumor removal..

I think we sometimes expect too much from Ben..I mean, let's not forget that the 'branding' was the lesser of two evils. Ben was the one who actually saved her life by calling off her excution, or what-have-you. He was the one who prevented the 'Sheriff' from disposing of Jules...for murdering Pickett, let's not forget.

I wonder whether Jules ever got round to thanking Ben for saving her life?

Quote:
However from what Juliet said, you did get the feeling that Ben was a bit obsessive about Juliet; but we've seen little evidence of that lately - he hasn't had time! Ben's been too busy turning wheels and rounding up the Oceanic Six for a return trip!
I can agree with that - he was obsessed with her for a time, but he's not the only one whose had obsessions on that island. I also think that Ben respected Juliet. It's actually quite refreshing for a male on LOST to actually respect a woman for her intellect rather than purely liking her for how she looks in a skimpy outfit *cough* Sawyer *cough*. Ben's a gent!

Indeed Ben is too busy..which highlights one of my other points (in another discussion thread) about Sawyer - he still has the audacity to flirt with Jules after jumping out of a potentially crashing chopper carrying his new best 'friends'..yet Ben is able to prioritise and deal with business before pleasure. Now that's a man who has his head screwed on straight

Ok! I'll admit that Ben was slightly indisposed with his back!

Yes, Ben did see Juliet as something more than a sex symbol but then again, because of the circumstances of his own birth he does seem obsessed with curing this maternal mortality problem on the island doesn't he? Richard Alpert seems to think it's all a waste of time and it doesn't seem top of his own priorities.

I sometimes wonder if this maternal mortality problem is key to the whole story of Lost - why can't they reproduce successfully? It has to be for a weird reason doesn't it?

Ben is business-like but it's the way The Others seemed to arrange for Juliet's ex-husband to be knocked down by a truck so Juliet could go to the island that annoys me (even if the husband was a bit sleazy) They also separated Juliet permanently from her sick sister even if they did cure the sister's cancer.

What is so damn important on that island that lives and people's feelings are just kicked into touch? We all want to know the answer to that one!

Hmm, I would say he appreciated her intellect more than her looks. Although she does "look like her" (his mom, I assume), so perhaps he did fancy the pants off her too.

Indeed, I can't dispute that, Ben is/was obsessed with solving the island's fertility issues. As you said, it's most likely due to his own guilt at 'killing his mother' - is this guilt subconsciously manifesting on the island and thus causing the fertility problems? Perhaps he was also so obsessed with solving these "novelties" because he was worried about Alex and wanted to find a solution before horny Karl had his rotten way with his daughter?

Alpert does indeed seem to think it's a waste of time, but then i'd also question Alpert's motives. Not that I think he's 'bad', but he sure is demanding for someone who cannot communicate with Jacob

Could be..I certainly think that it's an important-ish aspect of it.

I think the fertility problems are perhaps related to the purge - the island seems to be putting a cap/threshold on the number of inhabitants that are born there..perhaps it doesn't want anymore special people? Pehaps it is the islands way of 'purging' the spread of it's own specialness. Or perhaps it is connected to Ben's subconscious guilt? It will be interesting, now that Ben has left the island, to see whether or not the feritlity issues are solved. Sawyer and Juliet kissing in a tree..K..i..s..s..i..n..g!

Yes, but who says these were Ben's instructions? At the time it looked pretty possible that fate itself (aka the Island..Universe..) played it's part in disposing of Edmond.

Well Rachel was cured of Cancer thanks to Ben/Jacob. Isn't staying on the island a small price to pay for the knowledge that ones sister no longer has to die from the horror of Cancer? Juliet lives in the real world..she's a scientist..she should be able to live with her choice knowing that it resulted in her sisters wellbeing. imo.

The bigger picture..that, I believe is the answer to that question

Hi Roco,

You make some good points and I can see why the fertility problems and maternal mortality problems would irk/upset Ben but I still think he was a bit over the top with Karl (Alex's boyfriend).

Why didnt Alex just go on the pill? They obviously cared for each other and it wasn't just a case of Karl just wanting to get his leg over! You could tell he really did care for Alex.

If Alex was on the pill then Ben would have had nothing to worry about would he? Then he wouldn't have had to brainwash Karl and be beastly to him. I can understand Ben's concern for his daughter but there were other methods of ensuring her safety and health without resorting to some of his outlandish protective measures which only succeeded in drawing Alex and Karl closer together.
