Default The Island Needs You

"the island needs you, you have to go back before it's too late"

This is what Kate hears on the phone in her dream when the scene is run in reverse. Now some say it is Locke, but taking into account the time of the call, i.e. 3 years later, are we to assume that for the first few years nothing bad happens on the island, but then Locke tells Jack that after he left 'bad things happened'. This doesn't mean straight away, many years could of passed before something happens on the island. But it would seem that the island needs them all to come back, and without knowing it Jack is drawn back to it, and tries to get Kate to come with him. Ben hints that he knows something, when he tells Jack that all of them have to go back at the same time. I believe that the island needs certain people or an X amount of people on the island. What do you think?

I'd say it needs those people specifically, because I'm guessing that the bad things that happened can only be fixed with the people who were involved with the moving of the island/leaving of the O6.

yeah, I also don't think "bad things" happen immediately..perhaps several months..

I think that it's to do with 'destiny' - as Locke once said, they were all brought to te island for a "reason". Many of them haven't fulfilled their destiny..their path..their "work". Hence I assume that the island will haunt them (as will their own guilt) until they return to complete whatever work they need to do.

I don't think it's about 'quota' per se, rather I think that they each have a destiny inside them..a destiny which is directly connected to the island. For instance we saw Alpert scouting young Locke in Cabin Fever..we also see Emily tell Locke that he was "part of a design" (Deus Ex Machina) - all of this alludes to the idea that Locke and the rest of the O6 are special in that their destiny's are interwined around the fate of the island. The island is both literally and metaphorically a 'magnet' in this sense.

Just my take on it.

But how would them leaving the Island correspond with the idea that you can't alter the path of 'destiny' and that fate will prevail? Like what Desmond was told in flashes and no matter what he did, Charlie was mapped out to die. Or is that why such bad things happened on the Island...because Jack altered fate/destiny in taking his people off of it when they weren't supposed to leave. Unless the universe just hasn't course corrected yet and the Oceanic 6 (+ locke, maybe Ben...even Walt?) have to end up back on the Island. I guess that's why it's so vital that they ALL go back.

God my post doesn't even make sense to me...I'm out of practice.

You know we hear people say 'The Island won't let you...'? Like 'The Island won't let you die/come back' etc. Why then did the Island 'let' the Oceanic 6 leave? If it was their fate/destiny to be there and the Island has such powers (like making a gun jam when Michael tried to shoot himself etc), why did let them go.
Or would it have prevented them going if Ben hadn't moved it?

Found this video

I think it definetaly sounds like Jeremy Bentham..it would kinda make sense, since he himself is 'dead', and thus communicates via 'whispers' like all of the other dead people in this show:
