Whispers & "The Natives"

This episode seemed to suggest (to me at least) that the Others we saw were from the 'original native stock'. I just get the feeling that those who travel with Alpert are all 'natives' - perhaps all ageless aswell.

with this in mind there's a couple of interesting things which happened. The whispers made a return, in a very similar fashion to the season 2 finale when they appeared moments before the Others rounded up JKS, M+H.

Since then I've come to the conclusion that the whispers are of the dead..voices of the spirits who reside behind the curtain, as it were - Shannon, Boone, Nikki and other people who have died on (and maybe off) the island.

So how to reconcile this with the fact that the whispers appeared before the Others made their attack on Team Keam? Could it be that the whispers are part of the "natives" attack ploy? Do they have the power to command whispers to disorientate their enemies? Perhaps the "natives" are dead themselves, thus helping to explain Alpert's inability to age - afterall, Claire was able to physically exist yet also be dead wasn't she...

Or perhaps the whispers just appear whenever drama is going down?

hopefully we'll find some reconciliation with this in season 5..

Should add that it's also possible that Charlotte is a "native" or a decendent of one - considering they hinted at her being born on the island.

Her "I'm still looking for where I belong" (or words to that effect) reminds me somewhat of Alpert's "I want you to find your purpose" (to John Locke in 3.19).

Is there transcripts or anything of the whispers from tonights episode??

I like the theory about Charlotte though, I'm surprised that she's been on the island before though... Didn't Ben say once you leave you can't come back? Or was he just referring to himself after turning the wheel?

I think he said whoever moves the island can't come back.

He said the person who moves the island can't come back, not who leaves. As we know, both Richard, Ethan and Tom had left the island on a few occasions.

Yep, this is why he knew Jacob had put one over him. Jacob told Locke what to do, but now 'how' to do it..Ben knew that this was basically Jacob sending him down the river. Or dessert, if you will.

ONe wonders whether Widmore was ever on the island and made to turn the wheel? After all..who was leader before Ben? Who initiated the purge? In my mind it would be quite clever of the writers to make that person Widmore.

Would also explain why he claims the island was his, and that Ben "stole" it from him..
