So, seeing as she appeared off-island as a dream-like-manifestation to Kate, it would appear that Claire DID indeed die in or from that Rocket attack back in The shape of Things to Come.
By my record (and I have been counting) all manifestation/visions are of dead people - with the exception of Walt and possibly Kate's horse. RIP Claire..shame she only got interesting in death!

Also, interesting to note that this is Kate's first experience with a manifestation/vision (to our knowledge) since leaving the island and her 2nd in total (the other being the horse)
I was waiting for her to crack.. and it's always a guilt angle (i.e. Aaron) that makes them crack and allows the other person to manifest..

Not all dreams are dead people "Theresa falls up the stairs"
If Claire has been on the island with Christian for about 3 years, I'd expect she'd gain a fair bit of the island's powers, and possibly be able to project herself like Walt. I'm not counting her out yet, thats for sure.

Yeah, good point - hopefully if this is true, and it was actually 'Claire' (it sure seemed like it was - the island isn't usually as animated in it's visitations imo), we'll be able to gain some distingtion between island induced manifestation and spirit of the dead manifestation.

Astral projecting? That's interesting. Will give it some thought.
That's a good call - John's dream of him reanimating Eko was quite crucial in that it was the island literally directing Locke through the dreams of someone else - "haven't you ever followed a dream, John?" - Locke's faith was at a low ebb at that point, so the island used Eko's dreams to reshape Locke's. Good memories. But yeah, I think this would count..so perhaps i'll just say that 'most' of the dreams/visions/manifestations are of dead people?

And don't forget Claire's dream either, where Locke is messing with papers, or something.
Charlie had a dream that involved his brother, his mother, claire, and hurley... sort of... none of which are dead. haha, I'll stop now. ![]()

I don't think it really tells us anything either way.
Although I guess the fact that she's wearing the same clothes might...However, just to keep on the theme of screwing up the dead people-dream connection, I feel I should point out that Ben and Hurley were in Locke's dream in Cabin Fever. Of course, an important point is that they weren't actually active in it.

Ok, I just said this over on the UK Board... but i think you've basically said it here
![]() I think that this was possibly a sign that claire isn't dead because apart from locke, all who have appeared are dead, so that could be the Smoke monster or Jacob or whatever. But seen as Claire is telling Kate not to bring Aaron back, I'm thinking she's doing something to contact Kate, (let's not forget she's had visions before so it is kinda possible... Perhaps she's doing something similair to walts projection thing, as it has been suggested she's 'special.')

We'll probably have to count the dreams as being a seperate device from the visions and manifestations then. I guess that would actually make sense, seeing as dreams operate on a different threshold of conciousness than 'visions' - which happen when one is conscious.
With that said perhaps dreams are more open to invasions from the living and the dead, whereas waking sightings are purely the island reanimating as the dead? Is it accurate to suggest that all 'waking-sightings' (manifestations/visions) have been of the dead - with the exception of Walt in "Curtain"? ILWL - yeah, it could be Claire's soul or a manifestation of her i guess..the thing that makes me lean towards there being some actual remnant of 'Claire' there is the fact that she was 'chilling' in Jacob's shack with Christian..I'm not sure that the island manifest as her in that situation..it wasn't really needed..so perhaps it was actually the living Claire or her spirit in the shack/at Kate's house..and not the island? All very confusing but interesting. Claire, interesting..never saw it coming tbh.

That whole breif appearnece was quite strange, I don't know what to think about Claire, though what with her, abandoning Aaron, getting blown up in a house in the Other's town, hanging out with her dead dad at Jacob's and now appearing to Kate in a flash-forward spirirt vision I'm of the veiw that she's dead.
