Sun's Parents Know she speaks English?

Now they didn't show Sun's parents faces when she spoke english at the press conference..but I was under the impression that her 'english lessons' were a secret - meaning that her parents didn't know about it.

I'm just wondering whether the producers purposefully didn't show the reaction/faces of her parents because they didn't want to drag all that up again..or perhaps they didn't have time to fit such a scene in with all the necessary explanations (i.e Mr Paik demanding to know how she knows English so well etc etc)..

Or perhaps I'm remembering wrong and they did know..?

I'm pretty certain that Sun's english lessons were a secret to everyone. I don't think that her parents had any idea. I bet we will get to see a lot more of Sun and Mr. Paik in the future and hopefully we'll get to see how they reacted to this bit of information.

It was probably cut for timing reasons.

Well Suns father found out about the affair Sun had so its not impossible that i found out about the english to and even if he didn´t you would probolly learn alot of english if you were traped on a island for over 100 days and the only way to communicate was with english.

Interesting..you'll probably see it in the 4.12 part one repeat which is showing before the unaired episodes on ABC - apparently it's supposed to have 'unseen footage' so it will probably be that deleted scene.

Yeah he might have found out about her English when he discovered her affair - although I think they would have made a point of showing it at the time, rather than allowing us to assume? It's a pretty big dynamic to use at this stage. Although you could be right.

I'm not sure about being able to pick up fluent English in the space of 3 months..I think it would take alot longer than that - especially from the perspective of her father not knowing she spoke any English. This would surely be a shock to Mr. and Mrs Paik?

I guess we can look at it this way - Jin didn't speak any English before the island..and despite the island miracle English-learning powers, even he can't speak as fluently as Sun spoke during the conference. And the fact that she chose to translate and speak in English rather than her native tongue surely suggests that the creators did this for a reason - to show that Sun no longer cared what he father thought of her and wanted him to know that she has her secrets too?
