Default How Does One "Move" An Island

Thought this was a cracking cliff-hanger - Jacob (apparently) wants Locke and friends to "move the island". Whilst i do think this could tie into my Hurley is a Beacon thoery(), I was wondering what you people thought about this latest bombshell?

How on earth will they move the island, and why can't Jacob do it himself?

I guess this confirmation that the island 'can' move, tells us how the Black Rock ended up on the island among other things.

However, what if by "move the island" they mean through time and space..and not physically move it's location (if it even has a 'location')?

I mean, if they move the island to another 'time' then they could move it to a time before/after the freighties arrived..heck, they could move it to before the plane crashed (although then we'd have no story ).

The other thing i can think of is related to the powers of Walt and Hugo - they seem able to make things appear/disappear..so perhaps 'moving the island' relates to the usage of the 'minds eye'?

who knows..but it's certainly interesting.

I agree, it was a brilliant ending to the episode! I'm sure i wasn't the only one who went "WHAT?!" when Locke said that!

Ooh, that's an interesting idea. I think you're probably right on that one. If you think about it, to physically 'move' an island, however 'magical' it may be, seems downright impossible tbh. The only plausible explanation would be to move the island to another time zone where Keamy is unable to find it. Perhaps moving the island into the future - if that is possible? Lol, how funny would it be if the O6 went back to the island and it was in the future so everyone was like, OAPs

I also think it's likely that Hugo will have a part to play in 'moving' the island. I dont know why, really...i just have a feeling that he is there with Ben & Locke for a reason!

OOH, i have a theory! Sayid gets back to the island on the boat and picks up a few of the Losties - Sun, Kate, Jack, Aaron...(see where i'm going here?) and he takes them back to the freighter. Then he heads back on his second run to pick more people up, but Locke has 'moved' the island by then so Sayid can't find it. Hence there only being 6 losties rescued!

How do you move an island? One grain of sand at a time.

Locke, Hurley and Ben will tie ropes around their waists, then attach the other ends to trees on the shore, then just swim for it

Locke: "Come on Hugo, you can do it. There's ranch dressing for you at the end of it all. Ben! What are you doing?! You're going the wrong way!"

On a serious note though, this was brilliant, although I have no idea how the hell they're going to do it.

How does Hurley get with Sayid though? He's going where Locke is going... so, he'll probably be moved with the island.

They might move it with the Orchid... the thing is though... I wonder where they will move it... perhaps to the south atlantic?

And does the moving of the island solve how the Drug Plane got on it, or the Spanish ship?... possibly.

I went: they've done it again!

Yeah - I wonder which option is more viable - moving the island the to future..or to the past? I guess changing the past leaves too much scope for "paradox" - so perhaps moving the island the the future is a safer option?

We already know that Ben was unsure of the year when he 'appeared' in Tunisia..perhaps this is the reason why - the island was moved. Although the fact tht he was wearing Hallowax' parka suggests that he came from the past

lol..well, they've still got to answer the Adam and Eve storyline..so who knows

Yeah - crucially he was able to 'move' Jacob's cabin in 4.01..I think this could be an important aspect. Oh, and he was also able to make 'Charlie' disappear by counting to '5'. It's almost as if his mindseye is so powerful..yet so uncontrollable. Could he be somesort of 'beacon'..like a magnet which attracts/moves/transfers objects/people/memories?

I still heart this idea, although the thing we'd have to reconcile is Sayid's meeting with Ben in Iraq (4.09), where he (Sayid) seems to imply that nothing happened to the island from his last memory of it - he asks Ben how he got off the island, as if no 'moving' had occured..

Am i the only one wondering whether Jacob is sort of...losing his power? Ben makes him out to be this all-powerful force, but on Ben and Locke's first visit it appeared that Jacob was in a way unable to control himself and he sounded sort of trapped (remember "Help me")...also he now has Christian Shepherd speaking on his behalf. Was Jacob even in the cabin in this episode? Also, i think Ben is becoming less significant and Locke more so - in this episode he said something to John which was basically like 'my time is over - now it's your turn'. Could Jacob's loss of power be something to do with the electromagnetism, perhaps? Maybe pushing the button to control the electromagnetism also built up Jacob's power in a way...hmm, i dont know...just sort of saying things as i think of them lol

This is what's troubling me with this scene - it's almost as if Christian (or the spirit/manifestation of..) is more powerful than the great Jacob. What gives!? Has jumping the line made Jacob weaken slightly - but then surely he'd be stronger now that he's no longer 'contained'?

I have a funny feeling that this Christian spirit/manifestation isn't exactly on the up and up..something's just not right.

Yeah, it was definetely the 'passing of the torch' wasn't it - I was half expecting some Ben trickery, but he seemed genuinely relegated. It's almost as if Ben was a stop-gap until Locke was able to find his purpose..perhaps the island has always seen Ben in this way, because as I mentioned in my "We The Gifted" theory, Alpert's discovery of Ben seemed almost 'accidental'. Has he just got back from visiting Locke and being disappointed at his lack of progress? (probably not as he was wearing pirate gear - and that's anoher thing..why WAS he wearing pirate gear when we see him in th same time period wearing normal period clothes (Locke's flashback)? I digress.

Electromagnetism..yes, possibly. I think that's what powers smokey, so perhaps it also helps fuel Jacob's 'existence'? Perhaps that large burst of electromagnetism that was used to in Smokey's recent attack on Team Keam lessened Jacob's 'power' - hence his absense. Was he asleep in the backroom?

Will mull this over somemore.

Maybe, just maybe the Island doesn't move at all.
