I was wondering whether anyone thinks that Desmond was selfish for not going back with Sayid to rescue their 'friends'?

Not necessarily my opinion, but considering he's (apparently) got a history of cowardice, it makes me think

If anything he's got more balls for staying on the crazy freighter

To be honest, I think Desmond has made probably the only moderately sensible decision out of everyone on that island by not going back there

Its arguable he was being a bit selfish, and I can see your point, but if anything Desmond would just take up more space on the boat. Hes not one of the Oceanic 6 so we could presume he ends up back on the Island anyway

I think any-one in his position would've done the same thing. Like he said, he's been on that island for THREE years already, and his sole objective is to get off the island and reunite with Penny the love of his life.

I agree with Labyrinth...He really loves Penny and Penny loves him and he's been waiting the day he would met Penny and not going with Sayid was the only chance for that...
On the other side we can think that he's a little selfish.Cause he didn't go with Sayid for his love.

Yeah, I think that's about right. He was a little selfish in that he didn't go back (compare this attitude with Charlie's selfless sacrifice, for exmaple)..but on the otherhand it's totally understandable, because he's got the love of his life to go back to. Maybe if he didn't know she still loved him, it would have been easier for him to go back with Sayid - but after their telephone convo in The Constant, he knows that her heart still loves him and that she's waiting for him.

His heart must be aching to be in her arms again - bless

Yeah, i think Desmond was just doing what anyone else in his position would do. He's been on that island 3 years, and i can't blame him for wanting to stay well away! Especially with the possibility of him being reunited with Penny. And i do think that staying on the freighter was extremely brave considering the way things are going on there right now! Also now, like someone said, Sayid can fit more losties in the boat now!!
