Brian Laker
Just before the smoke detector distracts Jack away from the x-ray he is looking at, he is dictating in regards to the x-ray. I found the information about the patient whose x-rays he was looking at pretty interesting.
He states that the patients name is Brian Laker (whose initials happen to be the same as Benjamin Linus). The patient is 36 years old and has a tumor on his C-4 Lumbar. Isn't this exactly where Ben's spinal tumor was? I imagine Ben is also right around 40 years old. This could mean nothing and probably does, but I thought it was intriguing that he had the same initials and the same prognosis. Any thoughts?

Don't mistake coincidence for Fate.
Surely there is a connection... most likely metaphorical... It's possible an allusion to the work he was supposed to do on the island... and that he still has work to do on it.

Good catch, agree that it's an allusion to Ben's past condition and Jack still having work to do. whether this is for our benefit, or something being inflicted upon Jack remains to be seen. Probably the former, in this instance.
 However, he may leave the island, but the island experience will haunt him wherever he might be
