I found it rather cool that the writers used the smoke detector to lure Jack to Christian. It is as if they are implying that Christian is the smoke monster and it was he who set off the smoke alarms.

I personally dont believe the apparitions are the smoke monster, but I do think they are linked in some way. Also I think it may be more than a coincidence that the same person interrupted Jacks sighting of Christian both times Jack saw him.

Yeah, i think that was very clever. And i do think it was hinting that Christian's 'appearances' are something to do with smokey. Nice touch, writers! Unless of course it is a red herring?

Yeah that was certainly the implication - i too thought it was a nice touch.

It does blur things slightly however, as I like the idea of the visitations being from 'spirits' of the dead - as in the dead people themselves, as opposed to manifestations of the smoke monster. However I guess this can vary from vistation to visitation - Charlie might actually be 'Charlie', and the Christian manifesation might be Smokey. Or they can all be one in the same thing, which the smoke monster representing the conduit which facilites 'spirits'.

So like you I think they're linked in some way..it's a bit like communicating - there are many forms (face to face, phone, Internet, loud speaker etc), yet they are all linked.
