Ok, this narks slightly..seeing how the fertility doctor, who could barely hold a scaple steady a season ago, has suddenly developed an amazing ability to perform precision operations with twigs and and whatnot..why was she unable to perform Ben's op last season?
Plothole? ![]() I'm not cristising the writers, cos they get enough slack and i'll cover my eyes and ears, sing "lalalala" and pretend that i've forgotten all about Ben's operation ![]() I guess, they 'could' argue that performing an appendix removal requires less precision and expertise than removing a tumor from someones spine, because the spine has far more delicate nerve endings and whatnot? But still, you could have given Ben's operation a bash, Jules! Then again..perhaps he was better of with Jack who didn't advertise his death![]() Btw, I have to laugh at Bernard's role in this whole affair..i mean honestly..being an expert in one medical profession does not manifest a universal skillset. Ok, he only did the anesthetics, but still seeing him with that needle really made me LOL. You never know..remember the rebellion towards Jack that he had in "SOS"? I wouldn't trust that man sticking anything in my arm. ![]()

(i'm no expert) I imagine routine operations like appendix removals are done often at medical school and whatnot, where as spinal surgeory is a bit more... ooo don't touch that or you'll make him kick himself
Perhaps Juliet was always a kind of second choice (along with Ethan presumably; but then why would Ben send his apparent only surgeon on a suicide mission?) but when news of Jack popped up he probably guessed he would rather have a spinal surgeon prodding at his back than Juliet who would probably just try and smirk the tumor out ![]() But that doesn't explain how she had no idea what any of the instruments were before, but now she does, unless Jack told her which ones to get ![]()

An appendectomy is a very routine procedure. Almost as easy as simply stitching someone up. Spinal surgery is specialized - much more risky. Too many nerves involved. Had Juliet performed that surgery on Ben, there is no way he would have lived. You might as well let a five year old try it.

Was i the only one feeling really squeamish when they showed the op? *shivers* I can't believe Jack actually wanted to stay awake for that! When they showed Juliet slicing Jack open with the scalpel...and then putting the 'clamp' in....urgh!!! I actually couldnt watch!
And i'm not usually too bad with things like that! I think it was the fact that Jack was awake. Also i remember screaming back in season 1 when Jack was about to chop Boone's leg off...

An appendectomy is very straightforward. As Juliet said, she did a lot of them in her residency. Removing a spinal tumour on the other hand is an extremely difficult procedure. Only a neuro specialist would know how to do that.
I wasn't too fussed about Bernard carrying out the anaesthesia. I would say that dentists know quite a bit about administering various anaesthetics.
