Something Nice Back Home. This episode had the unenviable task of trying to top what TSoTTC did the week before..it's could be called the "Eggtown" effect, in which the episode following a legend is good but not quite as good as it was the week before.
That said, I did enjoy this episode, and hey, Jack flashes are getting alot more interesting thesedays if we take this one and 3.23 into consideration. Not that it was a 'great' flash-forward - it was terribly annoying in places - but it was something new and fresh, what with him proposing to Kate (I heard the universal groans and the yelps of glee depending on which type of viewer you are) and the visitation of Shepherd senior. However Jack's still got those anger issues in the future hasn't he - we kinda already knew that not much would change for him in the future..previous episodes have already told us that ultimately he becomes unhinged, so some of the value was instantly lost and puts into the question the 'long-term' merits of the flash-forward mechanism. Still, I enjoyed the Christian visitation - it's out of the way now and it confirms alot, if it needed confirming. More interesting perhaps, was his visitation of Claire..and his physical interaction with Aaron. Ooh, Claire jost got interesting..well, Aaron did, but I guess we must associate him with the vessel. I guess we've seen spirits/manifestation (etc) physically interact with the living before (Yemi held Eko's Cross, and 'Dave' threw a melon towards Hurley), but this one was kinda 'WOAH', as it ties things together..and ultimately suggests that Claire might not be die afterall (collective groans..), considering she's now gone AWOL. As with Keamy (who I knew wouldn't die in the last episode)..unless we SEE someone die, consider them alive. Speaking of which, that was quite a tense scene with Sawyer, Miles and Claire/Turnip hiding in the bushes. Good old Lupidis. Actually what the heck was he doing that far ahead of the group anyways? I guess the writers are not completely seemless in their story-telling. I thoroughly enjoyed the scene where Miles relived (if you will) the deaths of Karl and Rousseau. It struck me as different from the grandson scene, in that he appeared to see (and hear) flashes of there deaths, but the spirits of Karl and Roussy must have spoken to him aswell..how else would he know their names. This is why I love this guys character so much..he has mega potential in terms of the mystery of the show..the manifestations, the whispers, J-Cob..Miles is the man to unlock that stuff for us. As for Jack's on island stuff - seriously, it was kinda pointless considering we KNOW that the man leaves the island and lives -although to counter that they did use Hurley to suggest the old 'alternate reality/imaginary' angle..someone of a futile suggestion, considering the creators have said that they wont go down that angle, that they wont do that to us. Perhaps they were trying to con the uninitiated amongst us, or perhaps there IS more to the 'imagination' of the characters than meets the eye. I s'pose it can have it's own unencompassing thread in the show. However, in real terms the jeopardy was seriously lacking in Jack's plight. Did they want me to shed a tear for the man..the silly silly man who is too hard-headed to take Bernards knock-out gas? Actually, Jules made me LOL when she hollard: "Damn it Bernard knock him out!!" (owwe)..it reminded me so much of Jack's 3.06: "Kate, Dammit RUN!". They do love the drama don't they ![]() The part where Jules got to the root of Kate by basically having her tell Jack that she doesn't love him was..well..vindictive and crule. But well done Jules, she deserved that, lol. It boggles the mind how Jack EVER gets to the stage where he thinks that she is marriage material. Silly man. Other than the Miles stuff, my favourite scene was with Hugo and Jack (Garcia has been FANTASTIC this season!). What a scene..some great acting and a very convincing. when he started chatting about Charlie a chill ran up my spine.. ![]() Also, Sawyer all protective of Claire? This man gives me joke. You can't pick and choose 'when' to be lovely dovey Saw-boots! Good episode..but in almost every scene I kept hoping that we'd kinda get to the cabin..Y'KNOW! ![]()

(Roco I posted this in the rating thread by mistake but when I try to edit I just keep getting taken to a 'Cannot Display the Webpage' thing - not the same error page as before mind you. Same thing happens when I try to make a new thread, just to give you the heads up
)Good episode, however the beach events were a bit... well... pointless ¬_¬ I mean, we know Jack doesn't die. I think all it was was for Jack and Kate to get some angst in to fit in with the flashforward, which I TOTALLY expected btw However Rose's remark about how no one on the island gets ill was veeeery interesting. Is Jack being punished for peeing off Jacob/the island? More than likely lol ![]() I loved the bit at the Metal Institution after Hurley told Jack about Charlie, Jack sat outside and watched the bench for a while. Felt sorry for Hurley though, he seems to completely lost it now though And his little cryptic message... I was wondering when the raised by another thing was going to pop up.And Miles! Wow so he pretty much relived Danielle and Karl's deaths, didn't he? Well He'll probably be doing that a lot wandering around that island. I wonder if he'll walk over where Arzt blew up ![]() Christian Shepard... God he's not half getting around, is he? Well it seems like he's nabbed Claire lol. When he shouted of Jack I nearly wet myself, his voice sounded really scary ![]() Good episode. Wasn't great because they probably knew they wouldn't be able to top last weeks episode. Still enjoyable though.

Oh, and another thing, I've decided Jack's eventual breakdown is to do with the fact he no longer has a leadership role. His need for control etc is no longer being satisfied in his 'new' life, (perhaps somewhere in his mind he's starting to believe that he actually has no control over what happens to him, like Hurley and Michael have/had kind of accepted) and I think what Hurley said triggered this.
Pointless rambling right now, but I'm sure I'll be able to make sense of it soon enough ![]()

I guess the writers have a story that they feel they need to tell in order to facilitate the 'eng game', as it were. Still, felt very unorganic ![]() Very good point about Rose - I think that was such an important (or at least 'interesting') comment, cos she's right..people DON'T get sick on the island..the only other person who we've seen develop a 'natural' illness is Ben.. Is the island rejecting Jack? As you suggest, perhaps it's to do with Karma (as Bernie rattled on about a few episodes back) or is this Jacob's doing? I'm beginning to think that the my theory about actions and consequences is beginning to hold more water.![]() Quote:
Yeah, my heart went out to Hugo..he's so screwed up now..but the ironic thing is..he's right..he's not crazy and he's perhaps one of the more enlightened ones! I'm loving his story right now, and Garcia is doing a grand job with the character ![]() Quote:

She's always interesting when she gets kidnapped, lol..first by Ethan, then by Roussy, now (maybe) by Father Shepherd. lol, Clairingtons!![]() Good review FB ![]()

The flashforward and the Miles/Claire/Sawyer scenes saved this, as the story at the beach involving Jack and Kate was really terrible. Its only redeeming factor is that we got a lot with Juliet and more with Charlotte and Daniel, I loved his little "its that attitude" rant.

Juliet was more busy in this ep wasn't she. At first I thought she was beng alturistic in relation to Kate/Jack..then BAM! She reveals that she knew Jack was awake, and probably knew (hoped) that Kate would say exactly what she did. Sneaky Jules.

Ah my poor eyes: so much topless Jack and Jack talking and Jack speaking and Jack being the centre of things
![]() Jack's dodgy appendix storyline was pointless, since we know he survives and is never in any real danger. And urgh, I hope this is the one and only episode that was geared towards the Jaters out there. But it seems that the tedious triangle is still - still! - continuing into the future, with Kate sneaking behind Jack's back to do something for Sawyer. Yes I admit that I was pretty surprised when Jack not only proposed to Kate but it was revealed that he ended up with her full stop, but I just really don't care. I really don't. Aside from personal preferences, I didn't think this episode was that great at all, mainly because the main storyline of Jack getting sick was utterly pointless. Where's the tension or drama or plot/character advancement in it? Pretty much anything following TSOTTC would have scored less, and SNBH didn't dissapoint. In fact the best bits, well for me at least, was when Jin confronted Charlotte about speaking Korean and when Hurley pretty much matter of factly told Jack that he speaks with Charlie and that someone will be visiting him soon. Oh, and Christian popping up was pretty good as well! As was Miles' discovery/vision of Karl and Dani. And where has Claire gone? In fact any scene that didn't solely revolve around Jack and/or Kate was watchable, but not brilliant. It was decent tv for sure, but certainly not at the incredibly high standards that Lost can set for itself if it wants to.

Great review Ki, I agree that most of the best scenes didn't feature the centric character - that never happens with Ben or Locke

I'm thinking maybe that's all this episode was you know; a kind of break from the Locke/Ben storyline. I mean, Lost never would take you to Jacobs cabin straight after they set off to go, would it? They needed a kind of 'filler' to add to the suspense of Locke, Ben and Hurley getting to the cabin. Albeit they picked one of the the worst ways to do it, but we'll probably appreciate it next week (assuming we do get to the cabin next week
)
