Key Scenes From Smokey's Attack

I want to keep the other thread mostly for the glyphs, so...

I managed to capture several key moments of Smokey's brilliant attack. As TDS said in another thread, this is surely one of the biggest 'WOW' moments ever on LOST:

My general observations:

• When Smokey stormed through O-Town the trees barely moved - infact they moved no more than they were moving prior to Smokey's bursting through the area. I'm thinking that this is either an oversight on the part of the CGI team, or that it suggests Smokey has an 'environment filter' (yes i made that term up) of somekind, where he can select which objects to 'effect' and which ones to not effect.
• Several electric (electromagnetic to be precise?) pulses can be seen during Smokey bursting through O-Town and during his attack on 'Team Keam'. Smokey seems to have built up ALOT of electromagnetism - the last time we saw so much of it in one place was when Desmond turned the faisafe key. This (electromagnetism) is surely what powers Smokey, as many of us had theoried in the past.
• When one of Keamy's people tries to run, Smokey literally 'grabs' him..infact the shape of a 'thumb' and then a 'hand' can be seen grabbing the desenter and pulling him through the jungle. I find this interesting as it's almost like Smokey is devolving into a human in order to interact with humans..of course this could just be metaphorical more than anything else.

OMG!! You're right!! That is the shape of a hand and an arm. In one of the shots it almost looks like a person laying down sideways with their arm outstretched.

While looking at the pictures I couldnt help but wonder how Ben puts Smokey back? Assuming he did summon Smokey, won't somebody have to let the mutt back in the house eventually? Or does he go back in by himself?

I have to agree about the electromagnetism. I recall the scene where Eko confronted Smokey and the images were shown to him. You could also see the pulses then. Wicked stuff. I cannot wait to find out what Smokey really is.

Interesting - I never thought about Ben needing to put Smokey back..I guess i was under the impression that it would return when it was 'done' When Ben released Smokey I got the feeling that he hadn't had to do that very often (or not for a long time), although he seemed comfortable enough to say goodbye to Alex, so perhaps he knew how to handle it if it didn return from the jungle. Perhaps it's like an animal, where if you don't show fear then it's less likely to harm you? Or perhaps Ben has it trained? Or more he had enough to time say goodbye to Ally before he returned. It might even have gone off into the jungle with no intention to return - perhaps Ben has 'free'd' it from it's prison..assuming the other Smokey's were it's free 'children' (so to speak).

It's certainly interesting to consider the ramifications of releasing Smokes'!

Indeed, it was spectacular.

That Smokey, I assume, was part of the larger Smokey that we saw in this episode. I'm under the impression that smokey can seperate into smaller 'child' Smokey's geared towards achieving specific objectives like information gathering, manifesting and such.

In this sense, Smokey is very much a 'Cerberus'.

I think the electric pulses which coarse through it's body is the electromagnetism which seems to be one of the islands special properties. I think it's this electromagnetism which also 'powers' Smokey. This alone could tell us alot about Smokey's relationship to the island, and also the nature of the flashes - Desmond received after a healthy dose of 'eletromagnetism' when he turned the failsafe key. If smokey's high on the stuff it could well reveal alot about the flashes and the extraction of subconscious memories in general

I find it wierd how smokey has changed from black to grey, as if it creates a symbiotic circle with the island as they are both "fading away" from the threat they are under.

Ahhhhh Smokey the best character on Lost. Why did Smokey just grab them though? We've seen what it can do [The pilot in the tree-s1]
