Sawyers Soft Side

I love this new side of Sawyer we are seeing. He is still the quintessential bad boy in every way, but in this episode we see a glimpse of the softer Sawyer. The self-centered Sawyer had been replaced with Super Sawyer.

He saves Claire's life, calls her sweetheart and takes her and Aaron to the beach with him. Now he is surviving, protecting, and leading. Then Sawyer threatens Locke that if he so much as harms one hair on Hurleys curly head he will kill him. That was a great moment. Sawyer is evolving while still being able to face the bad guys and kick some major butt. I love the direction the writers have taken with him. He has taken on the big brother role to Hurley and Claire. Which is interesting, since in reality Jack is Claire's real brother.

The title The Shape Of Things To Come could apply to Sawyer here as well if this is the side of him we will be seeing in future episodes. I have always loved Sawyer. If it's possible, this episode has made me love him more.

Yeah I thought he was interesting in this episode. I'll leave my disappointment over his rude treatment of Ben for anther thread, but he was very protective over Claire and Hugo, which was nice to see.

In a way he's replacing the void of Charlie for bothof them - both Claire and Hugo were close to Charlie and now Sawyer seems to be filling the gap that he's left..as you suggest, he's stepping up, evolving perhaps. Also, at one point didn't Claire call him 'Charlie'?..

However, I'm not so sure that he's changed all that much - since he himself said "I have no plans on dying" (or words to that effect) - and that's fair enough, but the context of the manner in which he said it was clear - he was prepared to sell people like Ben, Miles and Locke out in order to save his own skin.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice that he's protecting Claire and Hugo, but I wish he wouldn't discriminate against those who he doesn't understand. He seemed to be a mixture of incredibly selfless and incredibly selfish in this episode (imo).

It will be interesting to see which direction he ultimately goes. Although i do agree that his good deeds in this episodeare worthy of acknowledgement!

I'm sorry, but HOW SWEET was it when he called Claire sweetheart?! That was such a cute moment!! Bless him...i think i actually went "awww!" Or was that just me? lol...maybe i was just wishing he was talking to me hehe. I love Sawyer! Also when he 'threatened' Locke & Ben to look after Hurley...haha. Bless.

Yeah, i definately think that was done on purpose to symbolise Sawyer 'replacing' Charlie...in the sense that he is now the one looking out for Claire and Hurley.

Yeah, it was very sweet. not sure where it came from (must be feeling guilty bout something ), but it was sweet.

I haven't, however, forgotten the way in which Sawyer abused and tormented the likes of Hugo...

I really liked Sawyer here... though, tbh he cared little about the fates of Doug, Bandana Girl, and Jerome.
