In a way it's quite comforting to know this forum isn't overrun with hardcore Jack fans

In all honesty even if Jack did something that I would whole heartedly aprove of I just don't think I could forgive everything else he's done to even begin to praise him...

I can imagine Jack's superpower being overactive tearducts or something like that.

His character just bugs me though, he's too obsessed with being well, a hero. For someone who didn't want to be the leader he's certainly not keen to give up the title.

I can't believe that I, a huge Sawyer fan, am one of the only people on the forum that is willing to defend Jack. I shouldn't like Jack as a Sawyer fan, but I do!

He's a hero. A good guy. And he tries his hardest and you people are just mean to him He's just had his appendix out for goodness-sake! And everyone looks to him for advice! It's not like Jack just storms in and takes charge, they all look to him. No wonder the poor lad is so stressed and so bossy. He might as well act like a tough leader coz that's how people treat him.

I'll defend him more later (Sorry Jack)

He's just had his appendix out yet insisted on running halfway across the island after the chopper! Why couldn't he stay put after all the work that was done on him?
I'm not saying I hate Jack, but I'm not exactly a big fan, as you can tell.

Because Jack knows more about the Others, the Island and the chance of rescue than most other people! There are only a few people (Kate, Sawyer, Sayid, Locke, Ben, Jules) that could do the same as him. I think I'd secretly want Jack to help, if I were one of the survivors, because I trust him and he's ahead of the game. Yes, he's risking his life but he knows a lot more than say Sun and so it makes sense for him to go.

Poor Jack, all he gets is abuse. I shall protect him, well, after Sawyer

I still can't believe that Jack, as an intelligent and highly trained doctor, insisted - no, whined - about being awake when Juliet took his appendix out, since he must be so distrustful of others to allow himself to be so vulnerable. He's just so horribly controlling and arrogant, and what was the point of insisting Kate was there to assist in his operation?

Lol Jack storms about pretty much wherever he goes! He insists on twisting things round to himself, like taking the responsibility for Des and Sayid getting on the helicopter. He stormed out of the camp to go and follow the helicopter signal against medical advice and I'm sorry, but I really can't see him as being a brave hero for such an action.

In my eyes, Jack wanted to be awake because he's a doctor. Doctor's are know for being the worst patients, they think their method is the best and so don't like it when they have to visit another doctor. Also, I think he wanted to be awake and have Kate at the operation because he was scared he was going to die. He wanted chance to say goodbye.

He doesn't, he just has a brisk walk . I think Jack can take some claim for the helicopter thing - he thought people needed to get on the helicopter but he wouldn't leave the island and so he probably feels guilty for that fact. Yes, I know it's against medical advice but he just wants to help. And I meant overall, not just pushing through the pain - Jack always attempts to be heroic. And for that, I love him.

Yes Jack knows alot about those things than many of the survivours but it's still irresponsible of him! Admittedly if Jack was at full strengh I'd agree with you about having him with me to help out, but in his current situation Jack is more likely to hinder those with him than help them. The guy needs to rest before he can be in a proper state to help out anyone, if someone else were trying to go off like that after an appidectamy (sp?) then he wouldn't let them go. He's being very hypocritical if you think about it.
I thought Sawyer might come first

But nobody has taken charge like Jack! He is the one everyone looks to, and I would bet my ice-cream that if he had just sat and watched whilst everyone else ran around and tried to get them rescued, y'all would have a go at him for not doing anything! The can can do nothing right. Yes, he needs to rest, but he also needs to look after the people who look up to him and expect him to take charge. He takes charge because he is literally given no choice. Poor lamb.

Sawyer and Jules, then Jack, and more often then not, Sayid, lol

Okay, I won't argue with that last statement. Jack is given no vchoice and, yes, he's doing a good job in a situation he hates, and one which he's been brainwashed into thinking he could never do by Papa Shepard. However, when Jack wasn't around they've looked to other people as leaders, even if it was just temporary. I think they would've managed that one situation without Jack tagging along.
Jack does need rest, yes, and as I've said, people can handle themselves for a little bit while Jack's not around. Sayid and Desmond are doing just fine. Also, no one can expect Jack to be fully taking charge as normal after going through a surgical procedure, they expect him to rest, and be responsible. After all, if he's not taking care of himself, how can he tak care of them?

Nice order there. No Kate? I'm shocked!
