First post so be nice please.

Did anyone notice the simalarities between Ben and Lock's mothers both named Emily look really alike? Think the times could work to coz John Lock is prob just a bit older than Ben. Just a stab in the dark, def check out the Lostpedia site link above and check out the family pics.

What do you think?

Feeling a little more confussed than ever now.

I don't think it's a coincidence that their mother's both share the same name but I highly doubt it's the same person

It would make sense, except that as far as we know, Ben's mother died at childbirth, which ended up being a hang-up for Ben and his father. Locke's mother was still alive whenever Deus Ex Machina's flashbacks took place, and they were certainly after the 60s. The ages don't really match up either — Locke's 48, so that puts Emily Locke at 16 in 1956, and Emily Linus looked way older in what looks to be the early 60s.

Otherwise I'd probably be in on this theory too.

I think I'm just putting it down to a weird coincidence that their mothers are both Emily L.

I think it's just deliberate on the part of the writers/producers to give them the same name, perhaps to emphasise certain traits that both Locke and Ben share. I can't really see them having the same mother (a similar plot is covered with Christian/Jack/Claire) so I don't think they would repeat it.

But it's still an interesting thought though.

Young Emily reminded me of Claire for some reason.

I think Him's breakdown of the ages and years confirms they are not the same but with Lost's time issues you never know. They do look similiar however.

They do look very similar, actually...
However i think it was probably just a deliberate way of showing parallels between Ben & Locke...something like that. Obviously what with them having the same name aswell.

The only thing that works against the theory for me is when we see Emily when Alpert arrives at their house, she looks completely different to Ben's Mother when we see her in the Jungle. Being around the same age in both instances, they do not look similiar. If that makes sense.

I assume that the significance is that there was probably some kind of 'prophecy' about the Chosen One being a premature son born from a woman called Emily (or Emily L.), who will not be raised by his mother. Richard might have been following that prophecy when he visited baby John, and when he decided to recruit little Ben on the island.

Me too. Their circumstances were certainly similar: both young single mothers (although Emily was significantly younger) who gave her baby for adoption/was about to give her baby for adoption. I think this is part of the reason why Locke always had a weak spot for Claire and Aaron.

And of course, John and Aaron are both 'special', apparently.

Young Emily looks just like Claire. Only just noticed that.

I'm not sure about this theory only becuase the fact that she was alive during locke's flashbacks and Ben's mum died at Child Birth BUT then again young Ben saw her in the Jungle on the island so she could be back alive. I'm stuck on this one really.
