Jeronimo Jackson (and some weird man) Easteregg

Inside Locke's locker there's a picture of Jeronimo Jackson - last seen in Locke's "Further Instructions" (and maybe more recently, but i forget) when Eddie (the undercover cop) wore a Jeronimo Jackson t-shirt at the commune.

I'm unsure of the point of this easteregg, although seeing as the group are apparently 'cool' and 'hip', it probably relates to Locke aspiring to be accepted by mainstream society..?

Behind the JJ picture is a photo of a man..perhaps a scholer of somesort? I find this strange, as from what we know Locke apeared to shun academics at this point..

Although the man could be anyone so i guess it's hard to make any links until we know who he is.

I noticed this though did not notice that piture of the man. Locke is named after someone from History I believe so perhaps the man is the real John Locke?

I think Locke had dabbled in Science at school [judging from his words to the teacher] but it had gotten him nowhere socially, so I find it acceptable that he has such a picture in the locker.

I think you are probably right there. I noticed the picture too when i watched the episode.

He is indeed - there is a famous philosopher called John Locke. I learnt all about him in Psychology, lol. Really interesting stuff actually...there are so many parallels with the philosopher's theories and John's beliefs.

Perhaps Locke liked the idea of a Philosopher having his name, while I also think he was '50-50' on the whole wanting to be a "nerd" so to speak but not wanting the image that comes with it.

I wonder whether there is a connection between Eddie wearing the JJ t-shirt and the JJ poster in the locker. Could the locker have been Eddie's Father's locker for instance? Locke never referenced JJ with Eddie so I doubt Locke is a fan of the group.

Well, the philosopher John Locke believed that people are born a 'blank slate' (otherwise known as a tabula rasa - sound familiar? ) and that their experiences shape their character. He also, interestingly, believed that one can do little to influence their own destiny - basically whatever happens is meant to happen and you can't change it. Very much like our Locke.

i have often wondered though if Geronimo Jackson came from the island. The picture that we always see could easily be them on the island and their hippy-ness would fit in with Horace's style when Ben first arrived on the island

you don't have to be "coll" or "hip" to like music besides i have always had the impression that they weren't that popular Hurley and Charlie had never heard of them and when Locke made reference to Eddie t-shirt he kind of said it in surprised why that Eddie should have heard of them and then Eddie said that his dad liked them which made me think he was told to wear the t-shirt on purpose to make Locke like him more and for him to say its his dads so Locke could possibly think that Eddie might look up to him as a father figure
