You can't see anything but you can see they are two different books.

I think Locke picked the wrong item just to mess with Richard. Do you guys know what I am saying?? Maybe to get Richard off his back or something. All I am saying is, I think Locke picked the wrong thing on purpose. By the way Richard looks sooooo good in those pictures, I am drooling right now!

Doesn't it just mean that Locke hadn't time travelled yet? Alpert was just checking, i think we are supposed to assume that Locke knew the right answer but hid it from Alpert.... why would he want to do that??? Oh by the way: I agree, Richard Alpert is fantastically gorgeous- i tingle all over when he appears!
Why is he the only one of the Others who travels through time (that MUST be what he's doing surely!??) I used to think he's ageless (like Jacob?) but not so sure now.

Thanks for the pix MEPs - GREAT thinking btw. It's interesting..even though the Eko reference is different to what Alpert's book of laws (probably), it's interesting to consider just how old both books are/could be..perhaps this can giv us some insight into how far back we can go before things called "laws" were ever put into practice..indeed, before th were put into books.

Are we talking Biblical times..perhaps before. It's amazing to consider just how long (if time is an actual measure) Alpert has been around..let alond his book of laws..

Hmm, not so sure - although it's a good suggestion which I haven't come across until now. Personally i think young Locke looked pretty disappointed to have not pleased Alpert by picking the right item.

although we should also consider the notion of the soul..and whether this intagible thing is able to 'remember' past 'loops', and therefore subconsciously persuaded the mind to make wrong/right/different decisions.

So, interesting suggestion..we could definetely go places with this.

Hmm, I think my reply for this would be similar to what I said for the above post. I like the suggestion..although personally I wouldn't say that young Locke remember which item he was supposed to choose..that is, I don't think he purposely/conciously choose the wrong item. Perhaps he was drawn to the knife, and this may have been the past Locke urging him to do so (after all, what is the soul other than a little voice inside us?)

It's not yet clear whether Alpert is time-travelling. Whilst it's certainly a prominent suggestion I also think that he simply hasn't aged and has therefore lived through many many ages of man..perhaps to the point of where time repeats..or loops, if you will.

But yeah, both are huge possibilities, although personally I prefer the the notion that he doesn't age and this is either a conseuqence or the result of him being assigned the role of nurturing and shaping the "chosen ones"

I could be wrong, however.

Yeah I agree but it's more than a coincidence that both were 'the book of laws'. Yeah it's going to be a long long time ago and seeing as Alpert never ages then it's hard to think how long he's been around.
