Miles Does A Charlie

Anyone else notice this - Miles with his hood up, very similar to Charlie during his drug rehabilitation days:

I think that the obvious 'constant' (if you will) here is Claire..anyone noticed how Miles has taken a severe interest in Claire and the baby over the past 2 episodes? Even going as far as to say "I wouldn't be so sure about that", when she said that she'd live in "Shape of Things.."

Has Miles been communicating with her dad, Christian? Surely he wouldn't want Claire dead - is that why he's (possibly) lured her out of harms way? And what about spirit-Charlie..surely he will protect Claire from any harm..warning her of impending danger via a whisper of something..

Anyway, I just thought this 'hood' parallel was interesting..

Its so obvious that Miles knows something, they keep emphasising this fascination. A popular theory I read recently says that the only reason Miles is so taken by her is that Claire is already dead, ie. she died when her house got blown up. How the hell thats possible I dont know, considering other people have been talking to her. I think we're going to be seeing a lot more of Miles "abilities" or whatever you want to call it.

That's an interesting theory, although i'm not sure that it makes sense, as it would suggest that the creators are playing with us, and that what we've seen since that episode, isn't actually real.

I mean if she died in the explosion, then how would she still be 'here'? Although i guess the fact that the deceased Christian Shepherd can physically interact with living things (i.e. Aaron) may support this theory, in that if he can..perhaps Claire (who is dead under this premise) also can. I guess it could work on this level. Although I think it would be a bit of a forced entry, since it would seem a bit of a 'sudden' plot-line to force on us at this juncture.

I have always been facinated with the role of the 'dead' in Lost..but I think that the evidence points to them being able to exist on the 'other side' as 'spirits'..and not being able to be dead, yet also physically exist amongst the 'living'.

I also don't think that Ben, Locke (etc) would be able to interact with her for so long after the explosion without her 'phasing over' or disappearing, if she was already dead. Had the explosion been an electromagnetic one, then maybe, cos that stuff causing all kinds of crazy stuff to happen. but this was a standard explosion..

Still, an interesting theory.

Personally my understanding of the Miles thing, is that he can 'sense' Claire's 'impending' death.. I guess it's a fine line between psychic and medium.

Yes, I immediately thought of Charlie and his hoodie when Miles was wearing his! It's like when Charlie wore his he was trying to shield himself from something - to make himself out as not being associated with things - and I reckon that Miles knows something bad will happen to Claire but he's trying to hide himself from the others by using his hood: he's trying to make himself less approachable and threfore less able to talk about what he knows.

Great theory...i definately think this parallel is something to do with Claire. What with Miles' ability to communicate with the dead, there has to be something in it...it's possible that Miles has been communicating with Christian. Hence why he let Claire wander off into the jungle in the middle of the night. I mean, since when was he paying attention to Sawyer's 'restraining order'? It definately looks like he wanted her to go off into the jungle with Christian.

Perhaps Miles' 'abilities' have been heightened since arriving on the island. We know he could communicate with the dead off the island; like hear them and speak to them blah blah blah, but what if he can actually make them appear real? Not alive though... just kind of like Bruce Willis in the Sixth Sense, just everyone can see him not just the kid Although that would still be hella confusing

I like the idea that Miles can sense Claire's approaching death, it would explain why he's taking such an interest in her. Maybe in letting her follow Christian into the jungle he's somehow making sure she's safer than she would be with him and Sawyer?
I seriously get the feeling that Claire's going to end up hanging out with Christian in Jacob's cabin. Is that just me or does anyone else agree?
Btw am I the only one who laughed at Miles saying he had to let Claire go because of the restraining order?

Miles has ben through Charlie's suitcase? Thats so disrespectful to the dead. But maybe he asked to borrow it during a vision.

I Don't think Claire's a ghost and blew up in the house (although that would make her mildly more interesting) but Miles was definately aware of Christian's presence in teh area and that he was here for Claire.

Now if only Miles could speak to Shannon and then everybody's happy

Indeed - and therein lies the crux - he had seemingly taken such a large interest in her and the baby - yet he didn't go off into the jungle with her. This suggests that he was merely keeping watch over her until 'Christian' was ready to manifest himself to her.

..also interesting is the fact that he isn't now bothered about Aaron - he must have known he had been left behind, yet he didn't go to collect him - it's as if the island or the island's spirits (however you want to distinguish them) told him to keep an eye on her until nightfall. I guess that we often think of mediums as channeling the dead..but i guess the dead can channel through mediums, and thus see the world through their eyes - perhaps this was why Miles was so invested in Claire and Aaron..because the spirit of Christian (or Charlie??) was 'seeing' through his eyes..

Indeed- the island seems to heighten peoples natural abilities - Jack's propensity to heal, Walt's astral projection.. etc..so as you say, perhaps Miles' powers are now working to whole new levels and allowing the spirits/island/Jacob to act through him in ways that it can only do so via dreams with other people..
