We know Smokey (or we pretty much know) that he can take the form of dead people if he has access to either their bodies (Christian/Yemi) or if the person he's appearing to/as is special (Walt,Ben). And so we see both Charlie and Christian in the real world. Crazy as Hurley would believe? No, Smokey (or Jacob, if you're like me and still believe Jacob and Smokey are one in the same) can go off-island.
I think this is substantially proved by the smoke alarm going off ![]()

I agree actually, as I think the smoke alarm thing was put in as a deliberate clue. But the question is how does Smokey get off the Island?

It's looking more like that way, although I would like to think that the 'manifestations' of off-island Charlie and Christian were the actual 'spirits' of those people doing the islands/Jacob's bidding. But I agree, the smoke alarm reference did seems to solidify the idea that Smokey can manifest off-island.
However, what if smokey merely facilitates to 'spirits' in appearing in the real world? I would prefer this as it would tick both boxes. However, you could perhaps support the argument that Christian was Smokey by the sneakers and suit he was wearing..compared to the 'different' garments he was seen in when Claire saw him.. I think the best bet is that there's one type of manifestation which is smokies doing..and the other type which is the actual spirit of the respective dead person. The more serious and sombre version, seems to relate to smokey - i.e Eko's last 'Yemi' encounter and Jack's encounter with his father in this episode I think Hugo's encounter with Charlie was actually Charlie..even if he knew that 'Christian' would soon be visiting Jack..I just think that the spirits and Smokey are aware of each others presence. ![]()

Might as well post this here aswell:
Some interesting scenes involveing Shepherd senior in this episode. Thought i'd capture those moments: "Charlie" is good with his word as Christian soon visits a bewlidered Jack: Notice how Christian is wearing the white sneakers that 'he' was wearing on the day Jack saw him on the island (1.05: White Rabbit): I think this alludes to the idea that 'this' version/manifestation of Christian is the SAME version (from the same source - Smokey?) as the one Jack saw on the island all those seasons ago. However, the following sighting of Christian is wearing completely different clothing when he visits his other child, Claire and his grandson Aaron: Can't tell whether he's wearing sneakers or not in this cap, but he certainly isn't wearing his usual suit (as seen in the above 'Jack' caps). So do we have '2 sides' in relation to the manifestations/visions/sightings? Several of us have believed thfor a while now, and this looks set to add more weight to this idea. If so, are these 'sides' in unison? It would appear not..one version of Christian is dour and 'serious', whereas the version which visited Claire/Aaron is far more jovial and chillaxed. As suggested, one version probably is Smokey/the island, whereas the other version is the actual spirit of the dead person. we've also seen this with the various "Yemi" manifestations.. It would appear that the island and the spirits/whispers are at odds..maybe. Just a suggestion which seems appropriate to bring back into the domain, since this episode.

It would appear so, as he's always appeared in those sneakers.
Roco, is Christian definitely wearing different clothes in that pic or is he just not wearing the suit jacket?
